A band () comprising, on its inner surface, an irregular array of tacky areas or protrusions () that dissipate foci of stress in the skin (of the abdominal wall or other body areas). Wearing such a band around the abdomen is intended to help prevent the occurrence of stretch marks.

This invention relates to methods of producing collagen biomaterials by admixing (i) a solution of monomeric collagen, (ii) a solution of polymeric collagen, (ii) cargo particles, and (iv) a non-collagen blocking polymer, to produce a collagen solution. The collagen solution is then allowed to solidify to produce a collagen hydrogel. This may be useful in improving the stiffness of collagen hydrogel constructs and increasing the entrapment and retention of cargo particles.

This invention relates to cell-independent processes which mimic cellular bioremodelling and produce organized biomaterials which have mechanical properties and viable cell densities suitable for use as functional tissue implants. The biomaterials are produced by providing a gel comprising a matrix of scaffold fibers of and an interstitial fluid; and plastically compacting the gel to produce the biomaterial. The biomaterials may comprise 3D structures such as layering, alignment and meso-scale zonal heterogeneities of cells and matrix which mimic native tissue structure. Biomaterials with biomimetic structure as described herein may be useful in a range of therapeutic applications.

Cell-independent fabrication of tissue equivalents

This invention relates to the production of biomaterials from polymeric collagen (PC) and its seeding with cells and other components of biomaterials. Polymeric collagen is isolated from tissue, suspended in an acidic solution, and then neutralized at low temperature. The neutralized suspension is then seeded with biomaterial components, such as cells, and the polymeric collagen aggregated to form a biomaterial comprising the biomaterial components. Polymeric collagen biomaterials produced as described herein may therefore be useful in a range of tissue engineering applications.

This invention relates to biomimetic implants containing mammalian cells which are induced by their environment to produce gradients of diffusible factors. This may be useful in eliciting a physiological pro-angiogenic response which stimulates angiogenesis and revascularisation in tissue adjacent the implant, for example in therapeutic applications in which increased angiogenesis and/or vasculogenesis is required. This may also be useful in providing biomimetic mammalian cell niches for cell culture and differentiation.

This invention relates to methods for preparing biomaterials by applying multiple cycles of tensile loading to compacted collagen gels in order to fuse the collagen fibrils together within the compacted gels. This produces a biomaterial with improved material properties. Biomaterials produced by such methods may be useful, for example, as tissue equivalent implants, in the repair and/or replacement of damaged tissue in an individual.

The present invention relates to artificial tissue growth guides comprising a core and an outer sleeve, which facilitates the regeneration of damaged tissues, such as nerves. The core is fixed to the sleeve at two attachment sites so that cells seeded within the core produce mechanical tension between the attachment sites. This tension aligns the cells and the fibres of the core and provides an improved substrate for tissue regeneration. Growth guides may be surgically implanted into an individual.
