An ophthalmic lens including a substrate-independent adhesive primer for joining a functional element to a lens substrate. In particular, the ophthalmic lens includes at least one polymerized lens substrate including at least one thermoset monomer, a functional component including at least one thermoplastic layer, a surface of the at least one thermoplastic layer facing the polymerized lens substrate, and a primer coating deposited onto the surface of the at least one thermoplastic film facing the polymerized lens substrate.

Primer for ophthalmic lenses

The present invention relates to a curable coating composition, especially a radiation curable coating composition comprising at least one poly(meth)acrylate compound comprising at least 6 (meth)acrylate groups, at least one unsaturated silane compound, and at least one photoinitiator. Said at least one poly(meth)acrylate compound comprising at least 6 (meth)acrylate groups and said at least one unsaturated silane compound represent at least 95% of the weight of polymerizable compounds present in the composition. Upon radiation-curing, the composition provides an abrasion- and/or scratch-resistant coating.

The polymerizable composition comprised two different categories of monomers which are able during crosslinking to control and limit said chemical shrinkage. An ophthalmic article and methods of manufacturing the ophthalmic article are described herein. The ophthalmic article can include a first coating and a second coating. The first coating can include an abrasion resistant coating that includes flexible materials. The abrasion resistant coating can be radiation cured. The second coating can include a sputter-applied anti-reflective (AR) coating. Such an ophthalmic article can have a Bayer value of at or between 1.25 and 2.6, between 1.25 and 2.0 or 1.25 and 1.75; and a hand steel wool value of 3 or less.

Abrasion-resistant tintable coating

A method and coating used to prepare a photochromically-enabled bifocal ophthalmic lens. The method and equipment includes injection molding a single vision lens, for example, from polycarbonate. The clamp opens vertically and the top insert is exchanged for a bifocal mold having a base curve similar to the single vision lens. The thermoset coating includes compounds from several acrylate classes, and is applied to the single vision lens. The coating may include a photochromic dye. The coating is also formulated to receive a photochromic solution through an imbibition process.
