A fabric antenna for telecommunications is disclosed. The fabric antenna comprises a host yarn, which is substantially electrically non-conducting, and an antenna yarn, which is substantially electrically conducting. The host yarn and antenna yarn are knitted together to form a host fabric comprising an antenna grid. The antenna grid comprises a plurality of intersecting antenna tracks formed of antenna yarn. The tracks are separated by regions of the host fabric and are electrically coupled together at the regions where the tracks intersect.

Fabric antenna

A method of manufacturing and an antenna having an upper and lower loop. Upper loop comprising a first conductive loop defined by an upper conductor and a first conductive blade tapering outwardly to form a flare portion adjacent a distal end of the upper conductor. Lower loop comprising a second conductive loop defined by a base conductor and a second conductive blade tapering outwardly forming a flare portion adjacent a distal end of the base conductor. First and second conductive blades defining, between their facing edges, a notch opening outwardly from a feed region. Upper loop further comprising an elongate conductive vane extending at an angle from a first location on the upper conductor to a second location on the first conductive blade defining a pair of loops within the upper loop.

Wide band antenna

A wide band antenna comprising a signal generator coupled to a feed region of at least one antenna element comprising upper and lower loops. Upper loop comprising a first conductive loop element defined by an upper conductor and a first conductive blade tapering outwardly forming a flare portion adjacent a distal end of the upper conductor. Lower loop comprising a second loop defined by a base conductor and a second conductive blade tapering outwardly forming a flare portion adjacent a distal end of the base conductor, first and second conductive blades defining, between their facing edges, a notch opening outwardly from feed region. The method comprising matching an antenna element impedance to the transmission line; selecting an antenna element cut-off frequency; selecting an upper conductor length, and subsequently selecting dimensions of the upper loop such that they are substantially equal to a wavelength corresponding to the selected cut-off frequency.

A radar or other microwave antenna comprises at least one antenna element, a feed structure for the element extending to the antenna element substantially normally thereto through a dielectric substrate, and characterized in that the dielectric substrate is anisotropic whereby to reduce unwanted common-mode currents in the feed structure. The anisotropy may be provided by elongate conductive elements distributed through the dielectric substrate and aligned with their longitudinal axes parallel to the feed structure.

Radar antenna

An antenna assembly is disclosed which includes a layered structure having a planar array of antenna elements; and a feed arrangement perpendicular to the antenna elements; the layered structure further having layers over the planar array of antenna elements with holes provided therethrough to allow the feed arrangement to be connected to contacts for the antenna elements. The layered structure may include vias provided such that heat may be applied remotely to the contacts.

Antenna array

A deployable lens is provided for an antenna. The lens comprises an array of metallic lens elements formed on a plurality of planar sections of a dielectric substrate, each lens element comprising a first end-fire element directed towards a feed side of the lens, a second end-fire element directed towards a non-feed side of the lens and a section of transmission line for coupling signals between the first and second end-fire elements. The section of transmission line, preferably in the form of a slot-line transmission line, is integrated with the end-fire elements and is of a length determined according to the position of the lens element within the aperture of the lens as deployed. An antenna is also provided comprising a deployable lens according to the present invention.

Deployable lens antenna

An antenna including a number of antenna units, each having a lens and an array of beam ports. The antenna units are arranged in a stack, and are configured to transmit or receive signals from the same field-of-view. Each unit is configured to operate in a different frequency band, with the lenses being configured such that an approximately constant beam shape is maintained across the entire operating bandwidth of the antenna.

An antenna is provided comprising a first group of part-spherical dielectric lenses supported on a first portion of a conducting ground place arranged to reflect signals emerging from the lens, each of the lenses having a number of associated switchably selectable antenna feed elements arranged around the periphery of at least one sector of the lens for injecting signals into and/or receiving signals propagated by the lens, wherein each lens and the associated feed elements of the first group has a different orientation and may be operated to provide coverage in respect of a different region. The antenna also comprises a second group of one or more spherical or part-spherical dielectric lenses and associated switchably selectable antenna feed elements, oriented and operable to provide coverage to a region other than that covered by lenses of the first group. The first portion of the ground plane may be substantially annular and arranged to surround a well-like region of the antenna in which the second group of one or more lenses may be accommodated.
