A power delivery system delivers a relatively constant voltage to a microprocessor with low inductance and low resistance. The system includes a motherboard, an integrated circuit (IC) mounted on one side of the motherboard, a capacitor bank mounted on the opposite side of the motherboard; and a power converter mounted on the side of the motherboard opposite the IC. The IC contains a microprocessor that receives power from the power converter and capacitor bank. A short electrical path between components is achieved by locating the power converter and the capacitor bank on the side of the motherboard opposite the IC. By shortening the electrical path, the system reduced the inductance and resistance created by the electrical traces. The components of the system are compressed together. Instead of utilizing long traces or specialized parts to connect the power converter to the motherboard, a compressive interface is positioned between the power converter, the capacitor bank and the motherboard. The compressive interface includes conductive materials that facilitate the flow of electricity between the various components. The compressive interface prevents excessive inductance and resistance between the power converter, the capacitor bank, and the motherboard.

Power delivery system for a microprocessor

A cover connectable to an electric component is provided for assisting a tool in assembling the electrical component to another structure. The cover includes a body section configured to form a vacuum seal with a tool and a component retention member connected to the body section for releasably securing the body section to an electrical component. The component retention member may include a release arm normally biased toward an electrical component and deflectable away from an electrical component. The component retention member may further include a catch surface configured to be secured to a bottom of an electric component to retain the body section on an electric component. The component retention member may also include a stop beam that extends from an end of the body section at an acute angle to the top surface and is configured maintain an electrical component a desired distance from the body section.

Cover for electronic components and method of using same during component assembly

An interchangeable impedance tuner for use in an electrical connector has been provided. The tuner is formed of a dielectric material different than air. The interchangeable impedance tuner may include a plurality of dielectric isolation ribs, wherein a dielectric rib is positioned between two adjacent signal and/or ground contacts. The tuner may also include at least one impedance adjusting metal insert and at least one insert receptacle for slidably receiving the impedance adjusting metal insert. Each impedance adjusting metal insert is oriented parallel to a portion of the contacts. Further, each impedance adjusting metal insert overlaps a portion of one of the differential pairs. A shell covering the housing and the tuner. The shell opens to allow removal of the tuner is also provided. Upon removal of one tuner, a different tuner, having different impedance controlling characteristics may be positioned within the cavity of the electrical connector.

Connector with interchangeable impedance tuner

An electrical connector assembly including an insulated receptacle housing, an electrical plug, and a ground shield is provided. Plug contacts within the electrical plug engage receptacle contacts within the receptacle housing. The ground shield includes top, bottom and side walls that at least partially enclose the receptacle housing and has an opening in the front face through which the electrical plug is inserted. First and second sets of ground contacts are formed integral with at least one of the top, bottom and side walls. The first set of ground contacts projects inward to form at least one plug contact point and plug ground plane with the electrical plug. The second set of ground contacts projects outward to form at least one external contact point and external ground plane with an external structure. The external and plug ground planes are located at different distances from the front face.

Electrical connector assembly utilizing multiple ground planes

A circuit card assembly (10) including a circuit card such as a terminator card (12) and a holder (14), insertable into a receptacle connector (20) of a mother board. Card (12) is snapped into the holder and maintained therein so that the assembly is manipulatable as a unit. Latch arms (56, 58) along side sections (52, 54) of the holder latch the assembly into guides (16, 18) of the receptacle connector.
