In one embodiment, an advanced electric propulsion system comprises: a housing; an electric motor within the housing; a motor drive coupled to the motor; a thermal management system comprising: a manifold-mini-channel heat sink integrated into the housing, the manifold-mini-channel heat sink comprises: an inlet manifold having air inlets formed in front of the housing; a set of plurality of circumferentially grooved micro-channels formed in the housing and coupled to the air inlets and conductively thermally coupled to stator windings of the electric motor; an outlet manifold having an air outlets formed at a back of the housing and coupled to the set of plurality of circumferentially grooved micro-channels; wherein the electric motor comprises PEW stator windings that provide a low thermal resistance path from the stator of the electric motor to the housing; wherein the PEW stator windings comprise a high temperature tolerant thermally conductive electrical insulator.

Systems and methods for electric propulsion systems for electric engines

A method of making an electromagnetic coil for use in a high-temperature electromagnetic machine includes pre-coating magnet wire with a high-temperature insulation precursor to produce pre-coated magnet wire, winding, while applying in-situ a glass-ceramic slurry, the pre-coated magnet wire into a predetermined coil shape to produce a wet-wound green coil, and thermally processing the wet-wound green coil to produce a processed coil. In some instances, a second layer of a high-temperature insulation may be applied to the processed coil to produce a further insulated processed coil, and then thermally processing the further insulated processed coil to produce a further processed electromagnetic coil.

Method of assembling a high-temperature electromagnetic machine

In some examples, a stator assembly includes a stator body including a base portion and a plurality of stator teeth projecting radially inward from the base portion. The stator assembly further includes an electrically conductive member wound about a tooth of the plurality of stator teeth to define a winding about the tooth, the winding comprising a single layer of the conductive member and including a plurality of turns of the electrically conductive member, wherein the electrically conductive member has a thickness in the radial direction that is less than its width in a direction perpendicular to the radial direction.

A housing for a drive system. The housing defines a motor cavity, an electronics cold plate, an oil cavity, and a coolant cavity. The coolant cavity defines a first coolant flow path configured to provide cooling to the motor cavity and the oil cavity. The coolant cavity defines a second flow path configured to provide cooling to the motor cavity and the cold plate. The housing defines a coolant inlet and a coolant outlet fluidically coupled to the first coolant flow path and the second coolant flow path, such that the first coolant flow path and the second coolant flow path are parallel fluid paths. In some applications the coolant paths can be connected in series. In some examples, the housing is configured to cause a counter-flow heat exchange between an oil flowing in the oil cavity and a coolant flowing in the first coolant flow path.

Traction drive cooling system

A traction drive system for a vehicle includes a housing, a high-speed motor, a motor controller, a transmission, a cooling system, and a lubricating oil system. The housing defines a motor cavity, an electronics cavity, an oil cavity, and a cooling fluid cavity. The cooling fluid cavity is thermally coupled to each of the motor, electronics, and oil cavities. The high-speed motor is substantially within the motor cavity and coupled to a lubricating oil system fluidically coupled to the oil cavity. The motor controller includes electronics within the electronics cavity. The transmission is mechanically coupled to the high-speed motor and coupled to the lubricating oil system fluidically coupled to the oil cavity. The cooling system is fluidically coupled to the cooling fluid cavity and configured to cool the high-speed motor, the motor controller, and the lubricating oil system.

Integrated traction drive system

The present invention provides a cooling device including a heat generating device having a device surface with a device surface contour on at least a portion of the device surface and a base having a base surface with a base surface contour on at least a portion of the base surface. The device surface contour and the base surface contour are substantially similar such that at least a portion of the device surface and the base surface fit in close proximity to each other.

A vibration damping sleeve for a stator assembly having radial vibration isolator features at both ends is provided. At one end, the vibration damping sleeve comprises a groove for a damping element such as an annular gasket while a plurality of beams circumferentially disposed are at the other end. The plurality of beams may comprise mounting flanges for mounting the stator to a housing support.

An integral cold plate/chassis (ICPC) housing may be formed from two blocks of material, having a cold plate sandwiched therebetween, brazed together. The blocks may then be machined to fit power electronics therein, thereby providing a cold plate as an integral part of the power electronic's housing. Unlike conventional heat exchangers that may be used to dissipate heat from power-dissipating components that are housed typically in sheet metal housings, the ICPC described herein provides a cold plate integral to the housing of power electronics, thereby allowing the rapid and efficient removal of heat from the components into the cold plate carrier fluid and out of the system.

The portable and compact motion simulator (,) is designed to simulate motion for a patron playing an interactive computer game or participating in a virtual reality experience.

Portable and compact motion simulator with a single degree-of-freedom

The portable and compact motion stimulator (10)comprises of a platform (22), a support base (20), three extensible members (24), and a motion base controller (26). The simulator can be used like a seat cushion that can be placed on a chair or can be a part of a chair. The motion base controller (26) drives the extensible members (24) to produce rotations about the pitch axis (14), roll axis (16), and translation in the heave (18) direction in synchronization with audio and visual images. The motion simulator system can be used interactively with a computer game or in a virtual reality environment. Numerous motion simulators can be linked to a common system controller (12) to provide identical synchronous motions to a plurality of users in a theater application.
