A process is provided for the production of xylenes from reformate. The process is carried out by methylating under conditions effective for the methylation, the benzene/toluene present in the reformate outside the reforming loop, to produce a resulting product having a higher xylenes content than the reformate. Greater than equilibrium amounts of para-xylene can be produced by the process.

Manufacture of xylenes using reformate

A C &plus; naphtha hydrocarbon feed is converted to light olefins and aromatics, by contacting the feed with a catalyst containing ZSM-5 and/or ZSM-11, a substantially inert matrix material such as silica and/or clay, having less than about 20 wt % active matrix material based on total catalyst composition, and phosphorus.

Catalytic production of light olefins from naphtha feed

A system and process for producing xylene and other alkylated aromatics includes one or more fluidized bed reaction zones that provide contact between the reactants (i.e., an aromatic reactant and an alkylating reagent). Improved conversion and selectivity is realized when the alkylating reagent is stagewise injected into the fluidized bed at one or more locations downstream from the location of aromatic reactant introduction into the fluidized bed. Preferably, the alkylating reagent is introduced at a plurality of locations along the axial direction of the fluidized bed reaction zone, or at plural locations between a plurality of different fluidized bed reaction zones.

Fluid-bed aromatics alkylation with staged injection of alkylating agents

There is provided a process for converting methanol and/or dimethyl ether to a product containing C to C olefins which comprises the step of contacting a feed which contains methanol and/or dimethyl ether with a catalyst comprising a porous crystalline material. The contacting is conducted in the presence of a cofed aromatic compound under conversion conditions including a temperature of about 350&deg; C. to about 550&deg; C. and a methanol and/or dimethyl ether partial pressure less than or equal to 50 psia (345 kPa). The porous crystalline material used in the catalyst has a pore size greater than the critical diameter of the aromatic compound and a Diffusion Parameter for 2,2-dimethylbutane of about 0.1 to about 26 sec when measured at a temperature of 120&deg; C. and a 2,2- dimethylbutane pressure of 60 torr (8 kPa), and the aromatic compound is capable of alkylation by the methanol and/or dimethyl ether under said conversion conditions.

Process for producing chemicals from oxygenate

There is provided a process for the selective production of para-xylene which comprises reacting toluene with methanol in the presence of a catalyst comprising a porous crystalline material having a Diffusion Parameter for 2,2 dimethylbutane of about 0.1-15 sec when measured at a temperature of 120&deg; C. and a 2,2 dimethylbutane pressure of 60 torr (8 kPa). The porous crystalline material is preferably a medium-pore zeolite, particularly ZSM-5, which has been severely steamed at a temperature of at least 950&deg; C. The porous crystalline material is preferably combined with at least one oxide modifier, preferably including phosphorus, to control reduction of the micropore volume of the material during the steaming step.

Selective para-xylene production by toluene methylation

A hydrocarbon feed containing C,C,olefins and/or paraffins is converted to light olefins, by contacting the feed with a catalyst containing ZSM-,and/or ZSM-,having an initial silica to alumina ratio greater than about,and phosphorus.

Catalytic production of light olefins rich in propylene

There is provided a catalyst and a process for converting methanol or dimethyl ether to a product containing C.sub.2 to C.sub.4 olefins. The catalyst comprises a porous crystalline material having a Diffusion Parameter for 2,2-dimethylbutane of about 0.1-20 sec.sup.-1 when measured at a temperature of 120.degree. C. and a 2,2-dimethylbutane pressure of 60 torr (8 kPa). In addition, the catalyst is characterized by a hydrothermal stability such that, after steaming the catalyst at 1025.degree. C. for 45 minutes in 1 atmosphere steam, the catalyst exhibits a methanol conversion activity of at least 50% when contacted with methanol at a methanol partial pressure of 1 atmosphere, a temperature of 430.degree. C. and 0.5 WHSV. The porous crystalline material is preferably a medium-pore zeolite, particularly ZSM-5, which contains phosphorus and has been severely steamed at a temperature of at least 950.degree. C.

Catalyst and process for converting methanol to hydrocarbons

There is provided a process for converting methanol and/or dimethyl ether to a product containing C.sub.2 to C.sub.4 olefins which comprises the step of contacting a feed which contains methanol and/or dimethyl ether with a catalyst comprising a porous crystalline material, said contacting step being conducted in the presence of an aromatic compound under conversion conditions including a temperature of 350.degree. C. to 480.degree. C. and a methanol partial pressure in excess of 10 psia (70 kPa), said porous crystalline material having a pore size greater than the critical diameter of the aromatic compound and the aromatic compound being capable of alkylation by the methanol and/or dimethyl ether under said conversion conditions.

Para-xylene is produced by toluene methylation by charging toluene and a methylating agent to a fluidized bed of catalyst at a rate sufficient to maintain the fluidized bed in a turbulent sub-transport flow regime, reacting the toluene with the methylating agent, and recovering para-xylene from the fluidized bed. The fluidizable catalyst is a microporous material having a Constraint Index of about 1 to about 12. The relative concentration of the catalyst particles having a major dimension of less than 40 microns is controlled at between about 5 and 35 weight percent. The catalyst particles have an apparent particle density of about 0.9 to 1.6 grams per cubic centimeter, a size range of about 1 to 150 microns, and average particle size of about 20 to 100 microns.

Fluid bed process for para-xylene production

This is a process for upgrading a petroleum naphtha fraction. The naphtha is subjected to reforming and the reformate is cascaded to a benzene and toluene synthesis zone over a benzene and toluene synthesis catalyst comprising a molecular sieve of low acid activity. The preferred molecular sieve is steamed ZSM-5. The benzene and toluene synthesis zone is operated under conditions compatible with the conditions of the reformer such as pressures of above about 50 psig (446 kPa) and temperatures above about 800.degree. F. (427.degree. C). In one aspect of the invention, the benzene and toluene synthesis catalyst includes a metal hydrogenation component such as cobalt, nickel, platinum or palladium. In one mode of operation, the benzene and toluene synthesis catalyst replaces at least a portion of the catalyst of the reformer. The process produces a product containing an increased proportion of benzene and toluene, and a reduced proportion of C8 aromatics, particularly ethylbenzenes, as compared to the reformate.

Hydrocarbon conversion

A process is disclosed for alkylating an isoparaffin with an olefin comprising the steps of: (a) reacting an isoparaffin having from 4 to 8 carbon atoms with an olefin having from 2 to 12 carbon atoms in a first alkylation reaction stage at temperature from about -40.degree. C. to about 500.degree. C. and overall isoparaffin:olefin feed weight ratio of from about 1:1 to about 250:1 with a solid alkylation catalyst comprising a synthetic porous crystalline material characterized by an X-ray diffraction pattern including values substantially as set forth in Table I of the specification and having a composition comprising the molar relationship

Isoparaffin/olefin alkylation

There is provided a process and a catalyst for hydrocracking hydrocarbons, such as gas oils. The catalyst comprises a hydrogenating metal and small crystal size zeolite Y. The zeolite Y may have a crystal size of less than one micron. Examples of hydrogenating metals include nickel and tungsten.

Hydrocracking process using small crystal size zeolite Y

There is provided a method for preparing an alumina bound, zeolite catalyst, wherein a zeolite of low silanol content is used as the source of zeolite used to prepare the catalyst. A particular zeolite used in this catalyst is zeolite Y. This catalyst may be combined with at least one hydrogenation component and used to hydrocrack hydrocarbons, such as gas oils. In particular, an NiW/USY/alumina catalyst may be used in a hydrocracking reaction to produce distillate boiling range hydrocarbons from higher boiling hydrocarbons.
