A system suitable for collecting and transporting urine away from the body of a person or animal may include an assembly having a fluid impermeable casing having a fluid reservoir at a first end, a fluid outlet at a second end, and a longitudinally extending fluid impermeable layer coupled to the fluid reservoir and the fluid outlet and defining a longitudinally elongated opening between the reservoir and the outlet. The assembly can further include a fluid permeable support disposed within the casing with a portion extending across the elongated opening, and a fluid permeable membrane disposed on the support and covering at least the portion of the support that extends across the elongated opening, so that the membrane is supported on the support and disposed across the elongated opening. The assembly can further include a tube having a first end disposed in the reservoir and a second, fluid discharge end.

A container for collecting liquid for transport, comprising: a web of flexible porous material defining at least a portion of a chamber in which liquid can be collected for transport. The chamber is configured to receive a tube in a position within the chamber that enables the tube to transport liquid from the chamber while the liquid collects within the chamber upon being drawn through the web when a partial vacuum is applied within the chamber via the tube. The porous material comprises a web of spun plastic fibers, such as spun polyester fibers. In one embodiment, the web of spun plastic fibers is configured to define an elongated portion of the chamber. In another embodiment, a backing of non-permeable material covers a portion of the web and is so combined with the web as to further define the chamber.

A urine collection device and a moisture-wicking article for use in a system for transporting urine voided from a person or an animal by collecting the urine in a moisture-wicking article that is disposed in contact with a region surrounding an urethral, opening, and drawing the urine into the collection device from the moisture-wicking article. The urine collection device includes a container defining an empty chamber for collecting urine. An elongated exterior of the container is configured and dimensioned for enabling a moisture-wicking article to be secured over the array of openings of the container by wrapping the article over the array and securing the wrapped article, and for enabling a said secured moisture-wicking article to be disposed in contact with the region of a female body surrounding the urethral opening.

This invention provides esters of propofol (2,6,-diisoprophenol). The propofol esters are soluble in water and metabolize rapidly to propofol in the body. The propofol esters are useful as pro-drugs for the same indications as propofol. This invention also provides methods of treating neurodegenerative diseases by administering as effective amount of propofol.
