A thermal printing apparatus for printing on a thermal print medium (10) having a conversion temperature (T.sub.C) to which the thermal print medium must be raised to cause printing to occur. The apparatus comprises a thermal print element (40) and exposure means for providing energy to the print element at a first average rate for a time sufficient to raise the temperature of the print element from below the conversion temperature to a temperature above the conversion temperature, and for then providing energy to the print element at a second average rate, the second average rate being less than the first average rate but sufficient to maintain the temperature of the print element above the conversion temperature. The exposure means comprises print enable means (100) for generating an enable signal defining the total length of the energizing interval, modulation means (102) responsive to the enable signal for generating a strobe signal comprising a first pulse (84) followed by a series of second pulses (86), and driver means (50) for energizing the print element in response to the strobe signal pulses. The first pulse has a first pulse length sufficient to raise the temperature of the print element above the conversion temperature. Each second pulse has a second pulse length less than the first pulse length, and the series of second pulses have a duty cycle selected to maintain the temperature of the print element above the conversion temperature.

Method and apparatus for temperature control in thermal printers

Provided is a luggage tag (10) that is attachable to the handle (32) of a piece of luggage and is comprised of an elongate strip of flexible material. A longitudinal fold line (18) is scored into the tag and extends from one end (14) to terminate at a detachable ticket (22) that is integrally formed in the center of the tag and extends from the terminus of the fold line to the other end of the tag. Tongues are formed in the tag on each side of the detachable ticket. The detachable ticket and tongues are configured and arranged so that removal of the ticket allows passage of the handle between the tongues. The tag is then folded along the fold line and the tongues are joined to enclose the handle, thereby securing the tag to the handle.

Luggage tag

A thermal recording paper comprising a substrate (12) and a protective layer (20). The substrate includes a support layer (13) and a thermal layer (14) comprising a heat-sensitive, image forming thermal material. The protective layer comprises a cured silicone resin overlying one side of the substrate and positioned on the same side of the support layer as the thermal layer. In another aspect, the present invention comprises a method of making thermal recording paper comprising coating one side of the substrate with a silicone resin such that the silicone resin is positioned on the same side of the support layer as the thermal layer, and curing the silicone resin by exposing it to radiation such as electron beam radiation or ultraviolet radiation.

The CRT is pivotally mounted in an enclosure which includes an integral camera. Photographs of the image on the screen of the CRT can be made by depressing the CRT and exposing the photograph.

In the making of fixed dental prosthesis, a model is employed, which is an accurate replica of the patient's teeth and gums. For reinforcement, the model is fixed to a base. A model comprises a replica of the teeth remaining in the patient's mouth and a replica of teeth to be prepared by restorative dentistry. For preparing the teeth by restorative dental techniques, a die is used. It is desired that the die be removed from and replaced in the model with facility, be indexed accurately relative to the model and have stability while positioned in the model against forces applied in the practice of prosthesis, and also be removable from the base on which the model is secured. Toward this end, a pin is fixed in the die having a locating leg and an indexing leg interconnected by an arcuate portion of the pin. The legs extend outwardly from the die to be received by the base to which the model is secured. A debris escape channel is formed in the base communicating with the opening in the base which receives the indexing pin to collect debris to reduce the tendency for debris to be disposed in the path of travel of the indexing pin into the base. Debris disposed in the path of travel of the indexing leg inhibits the full insertion or indexing movement of the indexing leg within the base.
