Imaging methods and imaging devices are described according to some aspects. According to one aspect, an imaging method includes defining a plurality of first portions of a layer of a marking agent corresponding to an image to be formed, removing the second portions of the marking agent after the defining, increasing a charge density of the first portions of the marking agent after the removing, and transferring the first portions of the marking agent after the increasing.

Imaging systems and methods are described. In one aspect, an ink layer having an electrorheological fluid composition including a suspension of colorant particles dispersed in an electrically insulating carrier fluid is formed on a surface. A charge image is projected onto the ink layer to selectively form charge-stiffened regions adhering to the electrically insulating layer and representing respective regions of the projected charge image. Non-charge-stiffened ink layer components are physically separated from the charge-stiffened regions. Portions of the ink layer are electrostatically transferred to a receptor substrate.

In a printing system a first endless imaging member, such as a belt or drum, moves past an imaging station where it receives a dry toner image, and contacts a second endless imaging member to transfer the toner image to the second member. The first and the second imaging members are each operated isothermally with at least the second member at a temperature T2 higher than the softening temperature of the toner which, in turn, is above the temperature T1 of the first member. The first member has a hard abrasion-resistant and preferably smooth surface with a surface energy under about 20 dynes per centimeter, while the second member is both softer and has a higher surface energy, but still below that of the ultimate imaging substrate, e.g., paper, and has a thickness and compressibility that allow it to conform. In a preferred system, a charge-deposition cartridge deposits a latent charge image on a dielectric layer to attract and hold toner particles. A five micrometer thick surface layer of Teflon PFA simultaneously provides a suitable capacitance and low surface energy for the first member which is then developed with hard toner particles formed with a polymer having a softening temperature somewhat below the operating temperature T2 of the second imaging member. The second imaging member may be a belt having a woven Nomex carcass and an overlayer of silicone or fluorosilicone rubber elastomer having a Shore A hardness of approximately 50 to 80 durometer, to effect essentially complete image transfer between the first and second belts. In a multicolor system, separate imaging members for each color are successively brought into contact with and transfer their powder toner images in a softened state to a common transfer belt which applies the composite multicolor image to a final print.

An imaging system, or unit of an imaging system, and a method of imaging employing a single imaging member to form a liquid-toned image, to condition the image, and to transfuse it to a print-receiving medium. The member moves through three sections, with the image formed in the first section, then changing state in each successive section. In a preferred embodiment, a heat exchanger uses heat from the third section to extract the liquid carrier from the toned image while it is in the second section. Condensed carrier replenishes toner, cooling the first section. Multicolor printing is effected by employing several such units, one for each color, to transfuse colored images in succession onto a receiving member.

Liquid/dry toner imaging system

The present invention relates to a variation of the traditional American football game concentrating on the passing aspects which demands virtually all of the athletic skills of traditional football, but capable of being played by a minimal number of players, preferably varying from three to five players. The subject game including new apparatus and method of playing employs a number of the refinements of the professional football passing game, based upon its timing and spacing aspects to provide a real athletic challenge, which game may be played on a smaller field, on both inside and outside facilities, the playing field consisting of a level open space at least 40 yards long and 30 yards wide. Spaced-apart markers are used to designate the offensive receiver positions for thrown passes and varied defensive alignments to prevent successful passing into a plurality of stationary nets or baskets.

Football game, apparatus and method of play

A photoconductive or magnetic filler allows a single thin belt to serve as the imaging element, i.e., as the latent and developed image carrier, as well as the element which transfers and fuses toner to a print. The transport member moves in a cyclic path to carry material from a first location to a second location maintained at a higher temperature, and counter-moving portions of the member are positioned to exchange heat with each other along an intermediate portion of the path, so that minimum energy is lost to the environment. In one embodiment as a printing apparatus, a belt transports a heat-fusible toner to a heated location where it is transferred and fused, i.e., transfused, as a print image to a sheet. Effective powder pick up and release is obtained in the printing apparatus with a transport member having an elastomeric layer of a softness which conforms to a receiving member of characteristic surface roughness, and a non-tacky outer coating which is harder than the elastomeric layer. The outer coating is thin enough to conform to the surface roughness, but hard enough to prevent entrainment of toner particles. A duplex system employs two belt-imaging members which each travel over one of a pair of opposed pressure rollers having identical elastic characteristics.

Powder transport, fusing and imaging apparatus

An electrode array forms a latent image by generating an electrical breakdown region and extracting an imagewise distribution of charge carriers which are accelerated toward a separate surface. Different control mechanisms, environments and ranges of operating parameters provide controlled amounts of charge delivered by electrons or ions for improved latent image production. High speed, high resolution and high uniformity of charge deposition are accomplished by different structures within the scope of the invention.
