An apparatus and process for frost control for the ambient air heat exchanger of a space conditioning apparatus. The ambient air heat exchanger is immersed in a fluidized bed enhancing the heat transfer and physically reducing frost formation. In a preferred embodiment, the fluidized bed is supported by a support bed of non-fluidized solid particles. In one of the embodiments the particulate beds may be desiccant materials. The space conditioning apparatus and method of frost control of this invention permits smaller ambient air heat exchangers and accommodates greater transient conditions due to the enhanced heat transfer and physical prevention of ice formation resulting from the fluidized bed.

Frost control for space conditioning

A high efficiency space conditioning process and apparatus for heating and cooling utilizing an absorption cycle in the nature of absorption heat pumps for heating and cooling. The invention provides a process and apparatus having a higher Coefficient of Performance than conventional absorption heat pumps by utilization of a substantially saturated salt solution cycle between at least one pair of: (1) an absorber and generator, or (2) a condenser and evaporator, wherein the salt is crystallized to the solid phase in the generator or evaporator, respectively, and the heat of crystallization is utilized for refrigerant vaporization occurring simultaneously.

Hyperabsorption space conditioning process and apparatus

A high efficiency space conditioning process and apparatus for heating and cooling utilizing an absorption cycle in the nature of absorption heat pumps for heating and cooling. The invention provides a process and apparatus having a higher Coefficient of Performance than conventional absorption heat pumps by utilization of a substantially saturated salt solution cycle between the absorber and generator wherein salt is crystallized to the solid phase in the generator and the heat of crystallization is utilized for refrigerant vaporization occurring simultaneously.

A heat exchanger and process having multiple fluidized beds for heat exchange between two gas streams of different temperatures. The apparatus and process provides a compact high efficiency warm air furnace especially adapted for energy conservation for the heating of modern highly insulated residential buildings by gas fired furnaces of relatively low rated gas input.

High efficiency furnace

A process and apparatus for drying air by a continuous atmospheric pressure and low pressure drop system wherein the adsorbent body is a wheel of thin sheets or layers of fibrous material containing about 10 to 90% by weight of a finely divided crystalline molecular sieve material. The process and apparatus is especially useful for drying air for confined areas down to and less than 0.001 lbs. of moisture per pound of air.

Desiccant apparatus and method

A hybrid physical-chemical absorbent process using the interrelation between a physical solvent and a H.sub.2 S selective chemical solvent for removal of CO.sub.2 and sulfur containing compounds, principally H.sub.2 S from a mixed gas stream. This process is especially useful in processes such as coal gasification where the incoming stream to the acid gas removal process is at about 1100 psia, 70.degree. F., contains about 15 to 40 mole percent CO.sub.2 at a mole ratio of CO.sub.2 /H.sub.2 S of about 25 to 50. In such cases the product stream contains less than 1 ppm sulfur and less than 3 mole percent CO.sub.2 which is suitable for production of substitute natural gas while the CO.sub.2 atmospheric effluent contains less than 7 ppm sulfur.

Process for acid gas removal from gaseous mixtures

A process for air cleaning by the removal of water and one or more undesirable gases such as NO.sub.x, SO.sub.x and CO.sub.2 by a continuous atmospheric pressure and low pressure drop system wherein the adsorbent body is a wheel of thin sheets or layers of fibrous material containing about 10 to 90% by weight of a finely divided crystalline molecular sieve material. The process is especially useful for the removal of NO.sub.2 from confined areas.

Air cleaning adsorption process

Improved metallic heat exchange apparatus particularly useful in a wheel-like form as a sensible heat exchange wheel in an environmental control apparatus. The heat exchange apparatus is constructed of multiple layers of metallic 'honeycomb', with the apertures of the honeycomb layers axially parallel and offset with respect to each other. The multiple layers provide thermal discontinuities so that the face to face temperature gradient of the heat exchanger is continuous. The heat exchange apparatus of this invention is fireproof, a serious deficiency in prior art wax-coated sensible heat exchange wheels used in environmental control apparatus.
