A steerable, high-power microwave antenna includes: a forward-traveling, leaky-wave feed antenna; a trans-reflecting conical-sectional reflector disposed spaced-apart and above said leaky-wave feed antenna and having a conical surface facing said leaky-wave feed antenna and formed of a plurality of electrical conductors held in parallel order in a grill; and a twist-reflector pivotally mounted opposite and spaced-apart from said conical surface of said trans-reflecting conical-sectional reflector. The twist-reflector is adapted to receive microwave energy reflected to it from said conical surface of said trans-reflecting conical-sectional reflector and to rotate the polarization of said microwave energy and reflect said microwave energy back to said trans-reflecting conical-sectional reflector for passing through said trans-reflecting conical-sectional reflector and forming a narrow, pencil-like beam of high energy radiation in polarized form extending outward from said conical surface of said trans-reflecting conical-sectional reflector.

Steerable high-power microwave antennas

A flat aperture waveguide sidewall-emitting twist-reflector (FAWSET) antenna, having an E-plane sectoral flare having a depth merely the H-plane width of the waveguide. Extending the E-plane sectoral flare is a twist-reflector tilted from one sidewall of the E-plane flare and a trans-reflector extending from another opposing sidewall of the E-plane flare. An angle between distal end of the twist-reflector and the trans-reflector is a function of the frequency of the incoming wave.

Flat-aperture waveguide sidewall-emitting twist-reflector antenna

A flat-aperture waveguide sidewall-emitting antenna in a compact low-profile configuration and with the capability of radiating a beam of extremely high-power microwave (HPM) pulses in a directional manner is provided. High-power microwave antennas are essential technologies to microwave-based directed energy weapons (DEW). The flat-aperture waveguide sidewall-emitting antenna is especially well-suited to high-power microwave operation because of its relatively large aperture, which distributes the output power evenly over a large area, thus reducing the risk of microwave-induced air-breakdown or surface-breakdown that would other wise impede proper operation and degrade output beam formation.

Flat-aperture waveguide sidewall-emitting antenna

A LMMHD power generation cell, having a fluid channel in which a conductive fluid is forced to flow in response to an external force. A pair of pressure conveying members such as bellow reservoirs can be used for conveying the external force to the conductive flow. A magnetic field is established across the fluid channel by a pair of magnets. A pair of electrodes is disposed with respect to the fluid channel to collect the electric current induced by the conductive fluid flowing through the magnetic field. The magnets are selected from either permanent magnets or electromagnets. Preferably, the conductive fluid is selected from low-density, low-viscosity, high-conductivity liquid metal such as NaK-78.

Modular liquid-metal magnetohydrodynamic (LMMHD) power generation cell

A compact, lightweight, steerable, high-power, microwave weapon including a self-powered, steerable vehicle having at least one exterior antenna support surface, a self-powered, microwave radiation source mounted in the vehicle and including a waveguide to connect the power source to the exterior surface, a feed horn, extending from the waveguide means, including a window transparent to microwave energy for receiving and radiating a pulsed, high-energy microwave radiation beam, a transreflector fixedly mounted on the exterior surface arranged spaced-apart and above the feed horn and having a concave surface facing the feed horn window and formed of a plurality of electrical conductors held in parallel order in a frame, and a twistreflector pivotally mounted opposite and spaced-apart from the concave surface of the transreflector and adapted to receive microwave energy reflected to it from the concave surface of the transreflector and to rotate the polarization by 90&deg; and reflect the microwave energy back to the transreflector for passing through the transreflector and forming a narrow, pencil-like beam of high-energy radiation in polarized form extending outward from the convex surface of the transreflector.
