A telescoping syringe suitable for use with medications and other materials is presented. The telescoping syringe includes a valve, a plunger, and a barrel. The valve further includes a barrier, an outlet(s) through the barrier, and an annular extension extending from the barrier. The plunger further includes an inlet(s) and a first side wall with a proximal wall. The barrel includes a second side wall with a distal wall at one end and an open end at another end. The plunger is extendable from and retractable into the barrel at the open end via slidable engagement between first and second walls. The valve directly contacts one end of the first wall so that an annular flange slidingly engages an annular groove. The valve and the barrel slidingly contact the plunger so as to open and to close the inlet(s) and/or the outlet(s). The inlet(s) in the open position permits gas to enter a first reservoir within the plunger as fluid is transferred from the first reservoir through the outlet(s) in the open position to a second reservoir within the barrel.

Telescoping syringe with one-way valve

A telescoping syringe suitable for use with medications and other flowable materials is presented. The telescoping syringe includes a one-way valve, a plunger, and a barrel. The valve includes a barrier, an outlet(s) through the barrier, and an annular extension extending from the barrier. The plunger includes an inlet(s) and a proximal wall fixed at one end of a first side wall. The valve directly contacts a distal end of the first wall so that an annular flange extending inward from the annular extension slidingly engages an annular groove along the first wall between first and second positions. The circumferential end of the first wall contacts the barrier in the first position to close the outlet(s). The circumferential end does not contact the barrier in the second position to open the outlet(s). A first reservoir is defined by the first wall, the proximal wall, and the valve. The inlet(s) permits gas to enter the first reservoir as fluid is transferred through the valve to a second reservoir. The barrel includes a second side wall with a nipple fixed to a distal wall at one end and an open end at another end. The plunger is extendable from and retractable into the barrel at the open end via slidable engagement between first and second walls. The second reservoir is defined by the distal wall, the second wall, and the valve.

A telescoping syringe suitable for use with medications and other ejectable or injectable fluids is presented. The syringe includes a plunger, a barrel, and a valve. The plunger is extendible from and retractable into the barrel. The plunger defines a first reservoir. The barrel defines a second reservoir as the plunger is extended from the barrel. The valve is disposed at one end of the plunger adjacent to a nipple extending from the barrel. A first sealing interface is formed by the valve and a distal wall along the barrel adjacent to the nipple. A second sealing interface is formed by an annular flange along the one-way valve and an annular groove along the plunger. A third sealing interface is formed by the valve and a circumferential end along the plunger. The sealing interfaces are closed prior to extension of the plunger from the barrel thereby preventing a gas from entering and a fluid from existing the first reservoir. The sealing interfaces are open when the plunger is extended from the barrel so that the gas enters the first reservoir via an inlet(s) along the annular groove and fluid is communicated into the second reservoir via an outlet(s) along the valve. The second and third sealing interfaces are closed when the plunger is retracted into the barrel thereby allowing fluid to exit the second reservoir via the nipple.

A horseshoe includes a thin, resilient member, embedded in a moldable material such as plastic or composite. Due to this dual construction, the horseshoe is strong yet light in weight. The moldable material has a thickness which varies across the horseshoe, so as to define a cavity in the space between the shoe and the horse's hoof. A channel, formed in the moldable material, provides access to the cavity, which can be filled with a medicated material after the shoe has been attached to the hoof. In an alternative embodiment, a source of current can be connected across the ends of the resilient member, causing the resilient member to function as a resistance heater, which can melt an adhesive used to attach the shoe to the hoof. The latter alternative can also be practiced with conventional all-metal horseshoes, or with an insulating horseshoe that is provided with an external conductive element.

Horseshoe

A horseshoe includes a thin, resilient member, embedded in a moldable material such as plastic or composite. Due to this dual construction, the horseshoe is strong yet light in weight. The moldable material has a thickness which varies across the horseshoe, so as to define a cavity in the space between the shoe and the horse's hoof. A channel, formed in the moldable material, provides access to the cavity, which can be filled with a medicated material after the shoe has been attached to the hoof. In an alternative embodiment, a source of current can be connected across the ends of the resilient member, causing the resilient member to function as a resistance heater, which can melt an adhesive used to attach the shoe to the hoof.

The hand tool has an interchangeable handle member with a particular coupling mechanism. The tool comprises a tool member fixedly disposed at one end of a ferrule member having a socket portion open to receive the tool end section of the handle member. The handle member includes the tool end section at one end thereof and a hand gripping section toward the other end thereof. The tool end section is elongate and extends into the socket portion and includes an outer surface having an inner end and an outer end. A shock absorbing mechanism is located intermediate the inner and outer ends of the tool end section along the outer surface thereof. The shock absorbing mechanism is effective to provide a tightened fit between the ferrule member and the tool end section when the ferrule member is slidingly displaced over the outer surface of the tool end section. While the coupling mechanism between the tool end section and the ferrule member is adaptable to any type of handle, the specific embodiment includes a composite structure having a core member with a molded plastic outer coating over the core member. The hand gripping section is oval-shaped in cross-section with the major axis thereof in a plane which extends through the longitudinal central axis of the handle member and thereby extends symmetrically through a tool disposed thereon. A particular connecting assembly including a fixture used in combination with a shank portion of a tool is used to fixedly disposed the tool in an outer working end of the ferrule member.

Interchangeable hand tool and handle therefor

Tool handle

A tool handle comprises a composite structure including a core member having a molded plastic outer coating over the core member. The molded plastic composite structure has a socket end, an intermediate section and a butt end. The socket end includes a substantially circular outside diameter for insertion into a socket portion of the tool on which the handle fits. The intermediate section is oval-shaped in cross-section along substantially the entire length thereof and has a transition portion connecting the circular socket end to the oval-shaped intermediate cross-section. The oval-shaped cross-section is effective to facilitate handling of the tool when the socket end is inserted into the socket portion of the tool. Particular features of the invention are directed to various specifically shaped core members, socket ends and butt ends. Other specific features of the invention are directed to the manner in which the tool handle is connected in a socket portion of a tool or with a shank portion of a tool. The tool handle of the invention is particularly useful with hand tools such as shovels, spading forks, pitch forks and the like.

Axe handle

A molded synthetic material tool handle comprises a synthetic material molded around an elongated reinforcing core. A tool carrying section is located at one end of the handle and a hand holding section extends from the tool carrying section. The tool carrying section includes a separator portion which is laterally spaced along the reinforcing core at a location between the end of the hand holding section and the free end of the core to form laterally spaced bonding material fill areas located on opposed sides of the separator portion. A sealing member is contiguously fit into a shoulder located at the end of the hand holding section. The sealing member acts as an expansion joint between the tool head and tool handle when connection is made with a high impact resin material.

Hand tool and a core reinforced molded synthetic material handle therefor

The device comprises a head portion having a cutting edge with a pair of lever members mounted on opposing sides of the head portion. The lever members are pivotally mounted at one end thereof to move in a crossed relationship with respect to each other and to swing the outer end thereof from a resting position outwardly with respect to the head portion. The outer end of each lever member has a structural configuration effective to cause the swinging movement of the lever members upon contact with the object to be split. The outer end of each lever member contacts the object immediately after the cutting edge contacts the object. The lever members are effective to provide forces via their end portions against opposing sides of a cut formed by the cutting edge and thereby enhance splitting of the object against which the cutting edge has been thrust. The lever members are pivotally mounted to bosses directly attached to the head portion.
