A snare drum wire set comprises a generally rectangular rigid plate having a front, a back including a central region having an aperture, left and right sides, and a top and a bottom. The back has a support leg on each side of the central region and an elevated back edge that bridges the support legs in the central region. A mounting strap having a front end is secured in the aperture and extends backward beneath the elevated back edge. A plurality of snare wires are secured to the bottom of the front of the plate and extend forward in parallel from the front edge of the plate. The preferred quick-change strap with transverse insert pin can be very quickly inserted or removed from the clip.

A drumhead tone control device employs an annular configuration of polyester film tightly adhered to the periphery of a drumhead membrane. The annular configuration of the tone control device includes radial and/or circumferential relief. The relieved tone control device disrupts transmission of vibrations reflected from the drumhead membrane/drum shell interface. Disruption of reflected vibrations improves the overall tonal quality of the drumhead while use of a tightly adhered polyester sheet close to the periphery of the drumhead playing surface minimizes undesirable alteration of the attack characteristics and fundamental tone of the drumhead.

Drumhead tone control device

A pedal assembly for a bass drum or high hat cymbals. A flat base plate has a resilient pedal board clamped to it with the pedal board inclined to receive a foot. A beater stick is connected with the toe end of the pedal board by a linkage that drives the beater stick against a bass drum when the pedal is depressed. The resiliency of the pedal board returns it to its normal position when foot pressure is withdrawn. The material of which the pedal board is constructed has a modulus of elasticity between about one million and about six million. A striker pad limits the depression of the pedal board to limit the force that the beater stick can apply to the drum.

A metallic drum shell has grooves which enhance its acoustical properties to provide a warmer and less harsh sound. The grooving can be a continuous spiral groove formed in the outside surface of the drum shell. The grooves can be formed with selected depths, widths, contours and frequencies in order to achieve the desired fundamental pitch, resonance and overtone suppression.

A drum beater comprising an elongated stem, and a beater head carried by the stem, and having a relatively hard drum striker, a relatively soft drum striker, both of said strikers facing in the same direction, to strike a drum head.

A vibration damping device for a drum includes a drumhead contact adapted to be releasably fixed to a drumhead of the drum and a strap releasably connected between the contact and a drumhead hold-down hoop for forming a drum vibration bridge between the drumhead and the hold-down hoop. The strap has a hoop attachment end and a contact attachment end opposite the hoop attachment end. The hoop attachment end is adapted to be fixed to the drumhead hold-down hoop of the drum, while the contact attachment end is adapted to be releasably connected to the contact.

Damping device for percussion instruments

An externally mounted adjustable damping system for drumhead allows the sound characteristics of a drum to be easily adjusted without disassembly of the instrument. The externally mounted adjustable damping system includes a mounting fixture adhesively attached to the outside surface of a drumhead. The mounting fixture defines an annular channel for receiving damping elements of various materials and configurations. The damping elements may be rings or segments of vibration absorbent material placed to achieve the desired sound pattern from the instrument.

A polymer film drumhead having indentations in the surface, the indentations placed strategically by size, number and placement near the periphery of the drumhead to control the vibrational characteristics and the overtone content of the drumhead when struck.

Drumhead

A rigid frame provides a mount for musical drums and cymbals as well as a seat for a drummer to provide him with vibrational feedback from the drums. The seat is adjustable and accommodates the drummer in a recumbent position. Sidewardly extending wings on the frame accommodate a special mounting arrangement for a bass drum. An upwardly extending post on the frame mounts an acoustical drum and a high hat cymbal. A snare drum is mounted in front of the seat on a telescopically adjustable double rail structure which is supported on front and back legs.

Frame structure for musical drums

A system for mounting a musical drum on a stand. A semicircular mounting band has projecting tabs which are mounted to the lower ends of a pair of drum tension lugs located 180.degree. apart on the drum body. The mounting band has a bracket at its center which clamps onto the stand. The mounting system avoids unduly detracting from the drum sound or servicing of the drum.

Drum mounting arrangement

A drumhead having a tone control ring which suppresses unwanted overtones while preserving the desirable fundamental tones. The tone control ring has its outside edge fixed to the drumhead hoop and extends along the inwardly facing surface of the drumhead sheet with its inside edge free to move and located inwardly of the bearing area of the drumhead. Small vent openings may be provided in the peripheral area or some other vibrational area of the drumhead to accelerate the decay of vibrations for further muffling of overtones. In an embodiment of the invention applicable to bass drums, the batterhead of the base drum is provided with an imperforate annular flap interposed loosely between the control ring and the drumhead for additional overtone suppression.

A muffling device for enhancing the sound and feel of a bass drum. The muffling device includes a flat pad and a pillow which is hinged to the pad and which exerts spring resistance to flexure about the hinge. The underside of the pad has a pair of fastening strips for application to mating fastening strips on the drum body to secure the pad in the drum body with the pillow flexed about its hinge and resting against the batter head of the drum to apply a tension force to it. The pad and pillow have sound absorbing cores continued within netting having mesh openings through which the cores are exposed.

Muffler for bass drums

Musical percussion instrument of the drum type includes tensioning rods fitted at circumferentially spaced locations about the periphery of the drum. The drum includes a cylindrical shell with metallic rims fitted onto the outer edge of the shell. Each rod has a tubular central portion and threaded bolts screw-fitted into the outer end of the tubular portion. The outer ends of the rods are received by brackets which extend outwardly from each of the rims in circumferentially registered relation. A support post extends radially outward from the shell of the drum at a location corresponding to each tensioning rod and the outer end of the post engages the rod to brace the same. Each post is affixed to the shell at a vibratory nodal point which, as measured from the adjacent end of the shell, is approximately one-fifth the overall height of the shell.
