A method for location based policy for UE operating in different areas of a shared home LTE system includes: responsive to detecting a trigger, determining a first enterprise operating area (EOA) in which the UE is currently located, wherein the first EOA is one of a plurality of EOAs of the LTE system; determining whether the first EOA is a home EOA or a visited EOA; when the first EOA is the home EOA, selecting a first set of policy rules for the UE; when the first EOA is the visited EOA, selecting a second set of policy rules for the UE that provides a lower Quality of Service (QoS) than the first set of policy rules; if a trust relationship exists, selecting a third set of policy rules for the UE while in the visited EOA, which provides a higher QoS than the second set of policy rules.

Location based policy for user equipment operating in different areas of a shared home long term evolution system

A system includes: a packet processing function and a packet modification function. The packet processing function receives a packet generated by a sending application function and destined for a receiving application function. The packet includes first identifier information, and the packet processing function adds second identifier information thereto. The packet modification function: receives the packet; alters it in a way that prevents use of the first identifier information by a 3GPP conforming service data flow detection process to map the packet to a first service data flow for the sending application function; and provides the packet to a packet routing function with the second identifier information positioned in the packet to enable the packet routing function to use the second identifier information in the 3GPP conforming service data flow detection process to map the packet to the first service data flow and to a bearer for transporting the packet.

A method of providing a mixed group communication session for a mixed group containing protected users and a guest user is provided. The method uses a secure server to assign temporary Identities (IDs) to the protected users. The secure server forms a mixed group session containing desired participants from among the protected users and the guest user. The secure server provides limited group rights to the guest user in the mixed group session. During the mixed group session, the secure server uses the permanent IDs of the protected users towards other protected users and temporary IDs of the permanent users towards the guest user. Also provided is a method for providing a mixed group communication session for a mixed group containing protected users and a guest user, wherein temporary IDs are assigned to protected users and the guest user.

Method of providing a mixed group communication session

Methods and apparatus are provided for communicating a flow of packets with a requested quality of service. An exemplary method involves receiving a first packet of a flow, determining a first reference value for the packet flow identification field of the first packet using a key value, and facilitating the requested quality of service for the first packet when the received value of the packet flow identification field of the first packet matches the first reference value. The method continues by receiving a second packet of the flow, determining a second reference value for the packet flow identification field using the key value, and facilitating the requested quality of service for the second packet when the received value of the packet flow identification field of the second packet matches the second reference value.

A Mutual Aid QoS Function (MAQF) performs a method for determining policy for user equipment (UE) providing mutual aid in a mutual aid enterprise operating area of a Long Term Evolution (LTE) system. The method includes: receiving an indication that a UE is assigned to provide mutual aid in a mutual aid enterprise operating area, wherein the UE has a home enterprise operating area that is different than the mutual aid enterprise operating area; detecting that the UE has entered the mutual aid enterprise operating area; selecting a set of mutual aid policy rules for the UE while the UE is providing mutual aid in the mutual aid enterprise operating area.

Policy determination for user equipment providng mutual aid in a visited enterprise operating area of a long term evolution system

A method and apparatus for admitting requests for allocation of bandwidth in a communication system is provided herein. During operation, available bandwidth is logically divided for use among commercial users and public-safety users, where the commercial users utilize a predefined portion of the bandwidth and the public-safety users utilize a public-safety portion of the bandwidth. When a public-safety bearer request is made, and available bandwidth does not exist within the public safety portion of the bandwidth, some bandwidth unoccupied by commercial users from commercial portion can be used to admit the bearer request. When commercial bandwidth is occupied by commercial users, lower priority commercial users can be preempted so that commercial bandwidth can be used to handle the bearer request. In a similar manner, the public-safety portion of available bandwidth can temporarily be used by commercial users.
