Disclosed are elastomeric compounds including an elastomer and a silicon-treated carbon black, and optionally including a coupling agent. The elastomeric compound exhibits poorer abrasion resistance in the absence of a coupling agent, lower hysteresis at high temperature and comparable or increased hysteresis at low temperature compared to an elastomer containing an untreated carbon black. A variety of elastomers and formulations employing such elastomers are contemplated and disclosed. Elastomeric compounds incorporating an elastomer and an oxidized, silicon-treated carbon black are also disclosed. Also disclosed are methods for preparing elastomers compounded with the treated carbon black.

A tapping band allowing for interconnection of fluid conduits without any interruption to fluid flow includes means (1A and 1B) adapted, in use, to be disposed around a first pipe (2) and having an outlet (3) extending substantially normally therefrom, the outlet (3) in turn defining the locale intended for tapping. The outlet (3) includes a slot (9) for receiving and releasably retaining a sealing member, in the form of a valve blade (10). The arrangement is such that, once in position relative to the conduit (2), a suitable drilling means is employed for tapping into the conduit (2) via the outlet (3), with the valve means then acting to seal the outlet (3) once the tapping means has been withdrawn. A secondary conduit (20) can then be joined to conduit (2) in any known manner and, when joined, the valve blade (10) can be withdrawn from the slot (9), thereby allowing fluid to pass from conduit (2) into conduit (20).

Tapping bands

A pipe fitting including a socket having a bore and an opening communicating with the bore. Means within the bore defining a surface inclined to the axis of the bore. Movable clamping means provided to abut the inclined surface whereby to clamp a pipe upon movement of the pipe outwardly of the bore, tubular means within the bore located between the movable clamping means and the opening. This invention provides a pipe tapping band of the type formed in two halves adapted to be clamped about a pipe to be tapped, one band half having an internally threaded integral ferrule to receive conventional pipe tapping means, a recess in the inner surface of the tapping band around the ferrule aperture, said recess arranged to receive and locate an apertured resilient seal between the tapping band and the outer surface of the pipe about an aperture formed therein and with said seal having peripheral lips arranged to provide sealing engagement with the tapping band and the outer surface of the pipe about the aperture therein.

This invention relates to a pipe joint for the butt jointing of pipes in the form of a sleeve to receive the respective pipe ends and provide a resilient seal between the sleeve and the pipe surfaces, said seal having peripheral lips adapted to effect an increase in sealing engagement by fluid pressure in the pipes.
