Silicone pressure sensitive adhesive (PSA) compositions and methods for their preparation are provided. In one embodiment, PSAs are formed from a silicone polymer mixture by condensation polymerization of low viscosity polyorganosiloxanes in inert solvents and/or silicone fluids, and optionally adding a silicone resin (MQ) during polymerization. The silicone polymer mixture formed may also be mixed with a silicone resin (MQ) and bodying catalyst, and bodying is allowed to continue until the desired reaction product is formed.

Process for the preparation of a silicone pressure-sensitive adhesive

The invention relates to branched organopolysiloxanes and to their preparation and use. A branched organopolysiloxane is prepared by the reaction of an alkoxysilane with a substantially linear organopolysiloxane containing at least one hydroxyl or hydrolysable group bonded to silicon, in the presence of a phosphazene catalyst. The branched organopolysiloxanes obtained can be suitable for use in a moisture curable sealant composition capable of curing to a high modulus seal, with less tendency to gel than when using other siloxane polycondensation catalysts. Phosphazene catalysts also have the advantage that the content of undesired low molecular weight cyclic silicones in the polymerization product is low.

Branched organopolysiloxanes

A release coating composition includes a curable polysiloxane and an aerosol suppressant that has more than one SiOunit. The aerosol suppressant includes the polymerization product of a siloxane and a cyclic polysiloxane polymerized in the presence of a polymerization catalyst. The siloxane has units of the chemical formula (SiO)(RRSiO)wherein Ra is a vinyl moiety, Ris an alkyl moiety, and x is a number from 1.05 to 4. The release coating composition is formed by combining the aerosol suppressant and a curable polysiloxane. The release coating composition is also used to coat a substrate in a release coating process producing a mist of less than 50 mg/cubic meter measured at approximately 457 m/min.

Air bags which are used for safety purposes to protect occupants of vehicles such as automobiles are described together with a process for coating air bags and air bag fabrics with silicone rubber compositions. In particular the invention relates to silicone rubber coatings which cure by hydrosilylation and an air bag coated with an elastomeric coating which is the cured product of a silicone composition comprising an organopolysiloxane (A) having aliphatically unsaturated hydrocarbon or hydrocarbonoxy substituents, an organosilicon crosslinker having at least 3 silicon-bonded hydrogen atoms, a catalyst able to promote the reaction of the aliphatically unsaturated hydrocarbon or hydrocarbonoxy substituents with Si&#x2014;H groups and a reinforcing filler, wherein the organopolysiloxane (A) comprises a branched organopolysiloxane (A1) consisting of: (i) one or more Q units of the formula (SiO) and (ii) from 15 to 8000 D units of the formula RbSiOwhich units (i) and (ii) may be inter-linked in any appropriate combination, and (i{umlaut over (&#x3c5;)}) M units of the formula RRSiOwherein each Rsubstituent is selected from the group consisting of an alkyl group having from 1 to 6 carbon atoms, an alkenyl group having from 1 to 6 carbon atoms and an alkynyl group having from 1 to 6 carbon atoms, at least three Rsubstituents in the branched siloxane being alkenyl or alkynyl units, and each Rsubstituent is selected from the group consisting of an alkyl group having from 1 to 6 carbon atoms, an alkenyl group having 2 to 6 carbon atoms, an aryl group, an alkoxy group, an acrylate group and a methacrylate group.

Silicone coatings on air bags

A release coating composition according to the present invention comprises an alkenyl functional polysiloxane (1), a silicon hydride functional polysiloxane (11) and a catalyst (111) comprising a platinum group metal. The alkenyl functional polysiloxane (1) is an alkenylterminated polysiloxane prepared by siloxane polycondensation and/or equilibration using a phosphazene base catalyst followed by neutralisation with an acidic neutralising agent. The level of catalyst (III) in the composition can be as low as 2-40 parts per million platinum group metal by weight.

A method of entrapping a water-soluble substance in vesicles formed from a surface active siloxane is carried out by dissolving the substance to be entrapped in water, adding the surface active siloxane, mildly agitating the mixture, and removing excess water and substance. Water-insoluble substances are entrapped in the vesicles by dissolving the substance to be entrapped in the surface active siloxane, and mildly agitating the substance and the siloxane. The surface active siloxanes consist essentially of tetravalent SiO.sub.2 units, and monovalent R.sub.3 SiO.sub.1/2 and R'R.sub.2 SiO.sub.1/2 units. The ratio of monovalent units to tetravalent units is from 0.4/1 to 2/1, and from 40 to 90% of all monovalent units are R'R.sub.2 SiO.sub.1/2 units. R is a monovalent hydrocarbon group with up to eight carbon atoms, and R' is a polyoxyalkylene group.

Siloxane MQ resin vesicles and entrapment

The present invention relates to a curable silicone release coating composition comprising (A) an organopolysiloxane having at least two alkenyl groups per molecule, (B) an organohydrogensiloxane having at least two silicon-bonded hydrogen atoms per molecule, (C) a siloxane resin having silicon-bonded hydrogen groups, (D) a platinum group metal-containing catalyst, and optionally (E) an inhibitor. The compositions of this invention are useful as release coatings for pressure sensitive adhesives.

The present invention relates to curable silicone coatings containing silicone resins. More particularly the present invention relates to curable silicone coating compositions comprising an olefinic organopolysiloxane, an organohydrogensiloxane, a platinum catalyst, and silicone resins in which the resins are prepared by a continuous method whereby the ratio of reactants is kept constant thus producing less variation in the final silicone resin that is produced. The silicone resins provide beneficial release properties when added to curable silicone coating compositions.

There is disclosed a herbicide composition in which a postemergent herbicide is activated by the inclusion of a silicone glycol adjuvant consisting essentially of (i) a silicone glycol having an average of 4 or 5 ethylene oxide units in its glycol chain and (ii) a silicone glycol dispersant compound for component (i). The composition provides enhanced phytotoxicity in the control of weeds, particularly velvetleaf plants, and shows an improved degree of rainfastness relative to prior art compositions.
