A ceiling panel having an upper face, a lower face opposite the upper face, and first through fourth edges having a first edge portion adjacent the upper face and a second edge portion below the first edge portion. Each of the first and second edges may have a tongue and each of the third and fourth edges may have a groove. The first edge portion of each of the third and fourth edges may include a first flange having a distal surface. The first edge portion of each of the first and second edges may include a first recess having a first recess wall surface. The first flange may nest within the first recess of an identical adjacent ceiling panel with the distal surface of the first flange of the ceiling panel being spaced from the first recess wall surface of the first recess of the identical adjacent ceiling panel.

A ceiling system, a ceiling panel, and a method of covering a ceiling support with a plurality of ceiling panels. In one aspect, the invention may be a ceiling system comprising: a plurality of ceiling panels, each of the ceiling panels comprising: an upper face; a lower face opposite the upper face; a first edge, a second edge, a third edge opposite the first edge, and a fourth edge opposite the second edge; each of the first and second edges comprising a tongue; and each of the third and fourth edges comprising a groove; and a plurality of alignment clips, each of the alignment clips comprising a cruciform rib element.

In accordance with the present invention, a method for manufacturing a color CRT (10) having a faceplate panel (12) is disclosed. The method includes the steps of forming a photoreceptor (36) on an interior surface of a viewing faceplate (17); establishing a substantially uniform electrostatic charge on the photoreceptor (36); and exposing selected areas of the photoreceptor (36) to visible light to form a latent charge image. The process further includes the steps of developing the latent charge image on the photoreceptor (36) by depositing (212, 213, 214) thereon charged phosphor particles; monitoring the width (218) of the deposition of the charged phosphor particles; and terminating the deposition (226, 227, 228) of the charged phosphor particles when predetermined process parameters (222, 224) are satisfied. A phosphor deposition monitor (PDM) apparatus (90) for monitoring the deposition of the charged phosphor particles on the latent charge image, formed on the photoreceptor (36), also is described. The PDM apparatus (90) includes monitoring means (96, 99, 123) external to the viewing faceplate (17) for measuring the width (218) of the deposition of the charged phosphor particles. Control means (122) responsive to the monitoring means (96, 99,123) is utilized for terminating the deposition (226, 228) of the charged phosphor particles when the predetermined process parameters (222, 224) are satisfied.

Method and apparatus for manufacturing a color CRT

The novel method for producing a coded marking on a CRT faceplate panel having an exterior and an interior surface with a viewing area surrounded by a periphery and having a luminescent screen with a plurality of different light-emitting phosphors separated by light-absorbing material includes the steps of: depositing a suitable photoresist on the interior surface of the panel to form a layer that extends across the viewing area and onto the periphery; illuminating areas of the photoresist on both the viewing area and the periphery with actinic radiation to selectively change the solubility of the photoresist; developing the photoresist to remove the more soluble areas, thereby exposing underlying portions of the interior surface of the panel while leaving retained areas of less soluble photoresist. The retained areas of the photoresist and the exposed portions of the interior surface of the panel are then overcoated with a light-absorbing material which is dried to form a coating. The light-absorbing coating is developed by removing the retained areas of the photoresist having the overlying light-absorbing coating thereon, while leaving the coating of light-absorbing material adhered to the exposed portions of the interior surface of the panel. The developing step forms openings in the light-absorbing coating on the viewing area and a coded marking, including a pattern of light-absorbing material and open areas, on the periphery of the panel.

The invention relates to a method for determining the thickness of an OPC layer 24 that is strongly absorptive to light at a first wavelength and substantially transmissive to light at a second wavelength. According to the method, the OPC layer is illuminated with light from an array 34 of fluorescent lamps 36 and the light transmitted through the layer is incident on a first filter 42 that is transmissive to light of the first wavelength. A first light intensity pattern transmitted through the first filter is sensed and stored in a first memory frame. Then OPC layer is illuminated again with light and the light transmitted through the layer is incident on a second filter 44 transmissive to light of the second wavelength. A second light intensity pattern transmitted through the second filter is sensed and stored in a second memory frame. The ratio of the first light intensity pattern and the second light intensity pattern is determined and utilized to calculate the thickness of the layer. An apparatus for practicing the method utilizes a CCD camera 38 as a light sensor which receives the filtered light. A computer 50 divides the first memory frame by the second memory frame to calculate the thickness of the OPC layer. A suitable display 52 provides a contour plot of the thickness of the OPC layer.
