A rigid crush resistant plastic tube having quickly removable end caps. A hypodermic needle contained in a sterile needle wrapper is placed inside the crush resistant tube so that a portion of the wrapper is folded over the outside distal end of the tube. The end cap is then secured over the folded wrapper portion on the distal end of the tube in a friction fit arrangement to secure the needle wrapper between the cap and tube. In this arrangement, when the end cap is removed, it pulls the needle wrapper out of the protective plastic tube to allow for rapid access and deployment. In use, the plastic tubes are secured with elastic bands inside a carrying case, such as a first aid backpack. As the soft cases are often subject to substantial exterior impacts, the tubing significantly reduces the risk of needle breakage.

A hypothermia treatment sack comprising a top sheet and a bottom sheet releasably connecting along their perimeters to form a patient receiving cavity between the top and bottom sheets while allowing for patient access from any location around the perimeter. The top and bottom sheets include a weatherproof exterior side for repelling wind and water, and a heat reflective interior side for preventing heat from escaping. A plurality of self-activating heating pads are carried in the top sheet for producing heat when exposed to air. The heating pads have a first side exposed on the weatherproof exterior side of the top sheet to provide for a generally unrestricted airflow to the heating pads, and a second side exposed on the heat reflective interior side of the top sheet for radiating heat directly into the patient receiving cavity.

A flexible sheet having an adhesive layer carried on a bottom side. A collection chamber formed in the adhesive layer by the exclusion of adhesive from a central area of the sheet for receiving fluid from the wound. A drainage channel formed in the adhesive layer by the exclusion of adhesive from a selected area of the sheet extending radially outward from the collection chamber to a drain outlet at a peripheral edge of the sheet to drain fluid from the collection chamber. The collection chamber and drainage channel having an open position allowing fluid to flow outward from the collection chamber through the drain outlet, and a closed position collapsed against the skin to prevent fluid intake through the drain outlet. A storage compartment carried by the flexible sheet including a needle and catheter for immediate access in treating a tension pneumothorax.

Protective container for a hypodermic needle

A stretcher comprising a molded frame assembly having a first frame pole and a second frame pole interconnected by a spreader bar for maintaining poles in a laterally spaced arrangement. A bed member is carried by the frame poles adapted for receiving and supporting a person. The molded frame assembly is constructed of a composite of 50% to 85% polyamide resin and 15% to 50% fiberglass by weight to resist hazardous materials and allow for decontamination of the frame assembly. The frame poles are constructed from a plurality of frame arms. A hinge pivotally connects abutting ends of frame arms, and a hinge support carried opposite the hinge further interconnects frame arms to increase the structural rigidity of the hinge. The frame poles having a hollow interior cavity to reduce weight with reinforcing members disposed in the cavity running the length of the cavity to resist bending and twisting.
