A non-toxic isosorbide-based degassing agent producible from biorenewable sources for addition to paints and coatings, powder coatings in particular, to prevent pinholing and minimize yellow discoloration during cure without use of potentially harmful VOCs or predominant proportions of benzoin.

Isosorbide-based degassing agent

An adhesive composition for bonding metal to natural or synthetic rubber, composed of a latex, an aromatic nitroso compound, and a polymaleimide compound. The adhesive composition may be formed by ballmilling the latex and the polymaleimide compound into a masterbatch of the aromatic nitroso compound. Bonded articles may be formed by applying the adhesive composition to a metal and contacting the metal surface with the rubber to effect bonding.

Adhesive compositions

Compositions of matter based on the reaction product of a dioxime compound and a polyisocyanate compound, made by reacting the compounds in an inert organic liquid in such a proportion that the ratio of oxime groups to isocyanate groups in the reaction is greater than 2:1, and is preferably about 2.5:1. The reaction product may be used in an adhesive composition which further includes an elastomer with a degree of unsaturation of greater than two mole percent, which is preferably an ethylene-propylene-diene terpolymer, and which may further include a film-forming adjunct, an inert filler material, and an inert solvent. The adhesive composition, which does not require an oxidizing agent, may be made into a liquid adhesive composition by mixing with an inert organic liquid. The liquid adhesive composition may be used to bond rubber to metal, producing useful bonded and laminated articles, by coating at least one of the substrate surfaces to be bonded with the composition; bringing both substrate surfaces into contact with the composition layered therebetween; and maintaining contact under sufficient conditions of time, temperature, and pressure to effect bonding. Both cured and uncured rubbers may be bonded.

A reaction produce which includes a reactive silicone, a polyol, and an isocyanate. The reactive silicone may contain polyol or polyamine functionality. A method for making a coating composition includes copolymerizing at least one reactive silicone, at least one polyol, and at least one isocyanate. A single-component coating which includes a polydialykl siloxane-polyurethane copolymer. A prepolymer in solution, wherein the prepolymer includes polydialkyl siloxane-polyurethane copolymer and a solvent, such as xylene.

Flock adhesive composition

Compositions comprising at least one adduct of perhalogenated cyclic conjugated dienes and olefinically-unsaturated dienophiles having a vinyl content in excess of 50 percent have been found to be unexpectedly effective adhesive systems for bonding a variety of elastomeric materials, including vulcanizable and vulcanized natural and synthetic elastomer compositions, to themselves and other structural substrates.

Adhesion of silicone elastomers to metal substrates, especially zinc phosphatized metal substrates, is significantly improved by exposing the substrate to a plasma comprising at least one organosilicon compound. In a preferred embodiment, the plasma-treated substrates are soaked in gaseous organosilicon monomer compound.

Method for bonding silicone elastomers to metal substrates

Adhesion of silicone elastomers to metal substrates, especially zinc phosphatized metal substrates, is significantly improved by exposing the substrate to a glow discharge plasma selected from the group consisting of at least one inert gas, at least one organosilicon compound or a combination thereof, prior to the application of any adhesive materials to such substrates.

Organotin semiconductor thin films are deposited on a substrate by plasma deposition of reactive organotin species. Conductivity can be increased by heat-treating organotin semiconductors in a reducing atmosphere at a temperature below the melting point of tin. Organotin semiconductors are rendered conductive by exposure to electron or particle beam.

The surfaces of organic and inorganic substrates, such as polyethylene film and metals, respectively, can be modified by cold plasma deposition of difluorocarbene or trifluoromethyl radical specie generated by subjecting precursor vapor, for example, perfluorocyclobutane or hexafluoroethane, to a radio frequency electrical glow discharge.
