A bicone antenna and methods for manufacture therefor can include a feed portion, a top section and a bottom section that can be centered on a vertical axis. The top section and bottom sections can each have a respective conical surface, which can extend radially outward from the vertical axis at an inner portion at a constant angle &#x3b8;with respect to a horizontal antenna axis of the antenna. For both sections, the inner portion can merge into an outer portion that can have a curved surface, with the curved surface extending radially outward from the conical surface so that the curved surface has a logarithmic profile when viewed in side profile. The above structure can allow for a multi-directional antenna with a minimum of moving parts, which can be easily manufactured, including by additive manufacturing techniques.

Bicone antenna with logarithmically extending conical surfaces

A broadband antenna can include a parabolic dish having a diameter D and a radius of curvature that establishes a focal point for the parabolic dish. A tapered slot feed having a feed point can be positioned above the parabolic dish so that its effective radiation point is spaced a distance F from the center of the dish, where F is the focal length of the dish. With this configuration, feed point for the tapered slot feed can be coincident with parabolic dish focal point. The tapered slot feed can include two elements that form an exponentially tapered slot, which establishes a phase center for the tapered slot feed. A conductive bar can interconnect the two elements, in order to minimize the phase center variation during broadband operation.

A compact, omnidirectional, broadband biconical antenna is described, having a first segment with its tip coincident with a horizontal plane, with an elevation angle between 23 degrees and 30 degrees from the horizontal plane; an open second segment joined to a distal end of the first segment, an elevation angle approximately 30 degrees greater than the first segment angle; an open third segment joined to a distal end of the open second segment, an elevation angle approximately 30 degrees greater than the open second segment angle; an open fourth resistive film segment joined to a distal end of the open third segment, an elevation angle approximately equal to the open third segment angle, wherein the segments are mirrored to form a biconical antenna; and a transmission line coupled to the tip of the first segment, interior to the first segment.

Broadband, small profile, omnidirectional antenna with extended low frequency range

An antenna includes a support structure and radiating element. The radiating element includes a dielectric planar substrate having a first and a second surface, at least two conductive spiral arms extending outward from and spiraling about an axis of rotation formed on the first surface, and a feed conductor extending outward from and spiraling about an axis of rotation formed on the second surface. The feed conductor may be substantially aligned with one of the conductive spiral arms. When the support structure is placed upon a substantially planar surface, the radiating element is positioned at height h from the planar surface, wherein height h is about one-fourth the wavelength of the antenna's operating frequency. The antenna may produce an omni-directional antenna pattern in azimuth and a broad antenna pattern in elevation, with both patterns having nulls near the horizon. An external reflector may be operatively coupled to the antenna.

A Variable Aspect Ratio Tapered Slot Antenna For Extended Low Frequency Response (NC #98541). The apparatus includes a tapered slot antenna having a length and a height, and having an aspect ratio less than or equal to 1 to 2.16. The tapered slot antenna includes a first antenna element comprising conductive material and configured to receive and transmit RF signals; and a second antenna element comprising conductive material, operatively coupled to said first antenna element, configured to receive and transmit RF signals.

Variable aspect ratio tapered slot antenna for extended low frequency response

A Variable Aspect Ratio Tapered Slot Antenna For Increased Directivity And Gain (NC#98102). The apparatus includes a tapered slot antenna having a length and a height, and having an aspect ratio greater than or equal to 2.5. The tapered slot antenna includes a first antenna element comprising conductive material and configured to receive and transmit RF signals; and a second antenna element comprising conductive material, operatively coupled to said first antenna element, configured to receive and transmit RF signals.

A Variable Height/Thickness Ratio Tapered Slot Antenna For Matching Impedance and Power Handling (NC#98542). The apparatus includes a tapered slot antenna having a gap height and a thickness. The tapered slot antenna includes a first antenna element comprising conductive material, configured to receive and transmit RF signals and a second antenna element comprising conductive material, operatively coupled to said first antenna element, configured to receive and transmit RF signals. A correlation between said gap height and said thickness can be represented by an equation.

The method includes providing a first antenna element of a tapered slot antenna pair, providing a second antenna element of the tapered slot antenna pair and operatively coupling the first antenna element and the second antenna element to form the tapered slot antenna pair having an aspect ratio less than or equal to 1 to 2.16.

VAR TSA for extended low frequency response method

A Tapered Slot Antenna Cylindrical Array (NC#98219). The method includes coupling at least two tapered slot antenna pairs to a base element in a cylindrical configuration. The tapered slot antenna array is operatively coupled to the base in a cylindrical configuration. The tapered slot antenna array comprises at least two tapered slot antenna pairs. Each tapered slot antenna pair of the at least two tapered slot antenna pairs is capable of operating independently of or in conjunction with other tapered slot antenna pairs of the at least two tapered slot antenna pairs to enable direction finding, acquisition, communication and electronic attack capabilities.

A concave tapered slot antenna. The antenna includes a first antenna element, a second antenna element and a concave dielectric lens. The first and second antenna elements are situated in a tapered slot antenna configuration. The concave dielectric lens is situated between said first and second antenna elements so that a 3 dB beamwidth for selected frequencies is increased. A method for fabricating concave tapered slot antennas is also described.
