Sterilant challenge device for use in steam sterilizers are described, including devices suitable for determining the efficacy of the non-condensable gas removal stage of a sterilization cycle and/or the quality of steam sterilant in relation to its content of non-condensable gas(es) are disclosed. Sterilant challenge devices having a metal tube having a defining a free space which is open at one end for the entry of sterilant and closed at the other end and at least one thermal load located around the tube are also described.

Sterilant challenge device

Devices for determining sterilization conditions within a sterilization chamber are described. Such devices include an elongate tube to be placed within said sterilization chamber and at least two temperature sensors within the cavity of the elongate tube. The at least two temperature sensors are spaced apart from each other along the length of the elongate tube by a predetermined distance and spaced apart from the interior wall of the elongate tube. Methods for determining sterilization discussed.

Device and method for determining sterilization conditions

A sterilant challenge device ( ), for use in testing the efficiency of the air removal stage of a sterilization cycle in a sterilizer, includes a tube ( ) of thermally-insulating material, the bore of which is closed at one end ( ) and open at the other for the entry of sterilant. A plurality of thermally-conductive masses ( ) is located around the tube ( ) and thermally-separated from one another by air gaps ( ), and a temperature sensor is located in an opening ( ) in one of the masses adjacent the closed end of the tube. An outer casing ( ) defines an air space around the thermally-conductive masses and thermally insulates the masses from the heat in the sterilizer.
