An illumination system and method can provide illumination at a specified color point. A first lens can project first light, from a first light-emitting diode (LED) array of first LEDs, corresponding to a specified illumination pattern and having a first color point, onto a scene to form first illumination regions at the scene that correspond to the first LEDs. A second lens can project second light, from a second LED array of second LEDs, having a second color point, onto the scene to form second illumination regions at the scene that at least partially overlap with corresponding first illumination regions at the scene. The first illumination can combine with the second illumination at the scene to form combined illumination that corresponds to the specified illumination pattern. The combined illumination can have a specified color point, such as between the first color point and the second color point.

Color correction using multiple LED arrays

A driver system controls a plurality of light emitting diodes (LEDs). The driver system includes a first driver to provide an LED current to each of the plurality of LEDs. The first driver includes a current mirror for the LED current provided to the plurality of LEDs. An apparatus includes a neuromorphic vision unit, an array, and a controller. The neuromorphic vision unit includes a plurality of pixels to photoelectrically produce data based on light received from an object in a scene. The array includes a plurality of light sources. The controller controls the plurality of light sources at one of a plurality of granularities, at least in part based on the data.

Systems, methods and devices are for optical imaging are described. A system includes a light source and a light detection unit. The light source includes a light-emitting device and a first spectral filter opposite the light emitting device. The first spectral filter includes at least one dielectric filter and has a first angular dependence of a transmission passband. The light source further includes at least one reflector adjacent side surfaces of the light emitting device. The light detection unit includes an optical sensor and a second spectral filter opposite the optical sensor. The second spatial filter has a second angular dependence of a transmission passband that is matched to the first angular dependence.

A light-emitting device comprising VCSELs formed in a die. The VCSEL distribution is characterized by an essentially linear decrease in VCSEL density over the die from a highest VCSEL density in a first die region to a lowest VCSEL density in another die region. The VCSELs share a common anode and a common cathode for collective switching of the plurality of VCSELs. A method of manufacturing such a VCSEL die is also described.

Light-emitting device

An autostereoscopic 3D display assembly includes pixels configured to generate a first image intended for a user's left eye, and a second image intended for a user's right eye. Each of the images is projected with a respective line pattern, where the bright portions of the left eye line pattern alternate with the bright portions of the right eye line pattern. The left eye and right eye line patterns are formed using a grating or a double grating. In one embodiment, right eye pixels and left eye pixels each include a double grating, with a different offset between the first grating and second grating to generate the different line patterns. In another embodiment, right eye pixels and left eye pixels each include a grating and one or more micro-LEDs, with a different offset between the grating and the micro-LEDs to generate the different line patterns.

A lighting device and method for manufacturing the lighting device are provided. A substrate contains at least a first surface and a second surface opposing the first surface. Light-sensitive material is provided on the first surface and/or the second surface. The light-sensitive material is exposed to light by applying the light from a light source onto a mask having a periodic pattern of light-attenuating features with interspaced light-permeable features. The light forms a periodic distribution of high intensity regions with interspaced low intensity regions at the first surface and/or the second surface. A periodic structure is formed based on the exposed light-sensitive material and includes light-attenuating features and light-permeable features corresponding to the light-attenuating features and light-permeable features of the mask.

Method for manufacturing lighting device

A system can include a light emitting diode (LED) and a transparent structure disposed over the LED. The transparent structure includes a first surface that reflects light extracted from the LED and incident on the first surface. The transparent structure also includes an exit surface opposite the first surface. The exit surface includes a first area that is textured to diffuse light over a first angular range and a second area that is textured to diffuse light over a second angular range. The second angular range is wider than the first angular range.

A backlight for a display screen, an electronic device and a method of operating a backlight are described. A backlight includes a light guide, a lead frame, and at least one visible light-emitting diode (LED) and at least one infrared (IR) LED on the lead frame. The backlight includes at least one light entry face and a light exit face. The lead frame includes a first lead and a second lead isolated from each other. The at least one visible LED is optically coupled to one of the at least one light entry face and includes a counter electrode contacted by the first lead and an electrode contacted by the second lead. The at least one IR LED is optically coupled to one of the at least one entry face and includes a counter electrode contacted by the second lead and an electrode contacted by the first lead.

Lighting device for backlighting of display screen

A light emitting diode array module includes a plurality of light emitting diode structures. The light emitting diode structures are arranged such that there is an optical cross talk between the light emitting diode structures during operation of the light emitting diode array module. At least a first light emitting diode structure of the plurality of light emitting diode structures is characterized by a first color. At least a second light emitting diode structure of the plurality of light emitting diode structures is characterized by a second color different than the first color. The first color, the second color, and the optical cross talk between the light emitting diodes are arranged to provide a predefined light distribution in a reference plane perpendicular to an optical axis of the light emitting diode array module. A lighting device can include one or more LED array modules.

A light source includes a light-emitting diode or device (LED) and an optic mounted over the LED. The LED emits a first radiation pattern that is non-rotationally symmetric about a first axis. The optic collects the first radiation pattern and projects a second radiation pattern that is rotational symmetric about a second axis and has a peak intensity that is angled from the second axis.

A system including an image capture system with a sensing efficiency that varies over a field of view of the image capture system may employ shaped illumination to compensate for the variation in the sensing efficiency. An illuminator may be configured to illuminate the field of view of the image capture system with illumination shaped to have higher intensity where the sensing efficiency is lower, e.g., at the periphery of the field over view. The imaging system may thus provide image data with more uniform signal-to-noise ratios. Image data from an illuminated scene may be manipulated using data from a non-illuminated scene to produce improved image data.

The invention describes an array of light sources comprising multiple VCSELs arranged laterally to each other on top of a substrate, wherein each VCSEL comprises a light emitting area surrounded by an electrode structure which does not emit light, wherein a shielding layer is applied on top of at least the electrode structure only covering a surface (of the electrode structure facing towards an average light emitting direction of the VECSELs, the shielding layer is an opaque layer and being adapted to optically match the array in a switched-off state to an outer surface of a housing of a device, where the array of light sources is to be installed. The invention further describes the device comprising such an array and a method for manufacturing an array of light sources.
