The invention relates to a video circuit () for processing video signals which show images on a display panel with linear light transition, comprising a gamma correction circuit (), a quantizer () and a sub-field generator circuit (). To save computing time, a random-access memory () replaces the quantizer ().

Video circuit

A table-based driving circuit for displays that switches between a normal operational mode and a read table block mode. The driving circuit comprises an address sequencer and a memory. The memory comprises the full table of individual sequences, such as interlacing or color-sequential sequence. In the read table mode, the next upcoming addresses are read, i.e. are downloaded, from the memory into an address table register in the address sequencer. In the normal operational mode, the address sequencer generates the addresses for the video data to be stored in the memory or to be displayed.

Driving method, driving circuit and driving apparatus for a display system

Merging of overlapping two-dimensional (2D) images that are formed by an image pick-up device as projections of a three-dimensional (3D) scene includes image registration by projective transformation of one of the 2D images. The transformation is derived from corresponding feature points found in both images. In order to achieve improved accuracy and stability, the coordinates of the corresponding feature points are translated so that, on average, the numerical ranges of coordinate values are minimized. An apparatus for performing the merging of overlapping 2D images includes an appropriately configured image processor or computer with an attached image acquisition device. In one embodiment, the apparatus is a diagnostic x-ray apparatus.

An advanced video compression coding system which employs variable block size transforms to improve the compression efficiency for transmission of video pictures. A picture block segmentation map is transmitted as a one-dimensional series of block-size codes by scanning the segmentation map in accordance with a predetermined scanning pattern and on the basis of block size. A block-size code is skipped when the scanning pattern intersects a block which has already been scanned earlier. The series of block-size codes is then run-length and Huffman-coded before being transmitted.

Device for splitting a digital interlaced television signal into components in which interlaced frames are applied to a vertical low-pass filter (6). To prevent motion artefacts in the spatial signal thus obtained, the interlaced frame is also applied to a vertical high-pass filter (8). This vertical high-pass filter supplies a motion auxiliary signal which may have a small vertical bandwidth. When combining the spatial signal and the motion auxiliary signal, noticeable motion artefacts do not occur in the interlaced frame. The device may be used for deriving a standard television signal from a high-definition television (HDTV) signal and for compatible transmission of HDTV signals.
