A method for connecting a first element with a second element, includes coupling a third element with the second element, coupling the third element with the first element by thermal joining, wherein the first element and the second element are made of different materials essentially incapable of being thermally joined with a welding process, and wherein the third element is arranged in an opening of the second element in a form fitting and/or force fitting manner.

In a method of producing a transverse link for arrangement on a motor vehicle axle, a semifinished product is produced from an extrusion profile of light metal with at least three hollow chambers in side-by-side relationship. A top side and a bottom side of a middle one of the chambers is trimmed at ends thereof so that outer ones of the chambers form bearing arms which project beyond a base body. The middle chamber is formed with flanges which are bent and coupled with the base body. The bearing arms are bent and mounts for attachment are formed.

Roll over protection system

The invention relates to a releasable holding mechanism which may be used to hold and release a roll bar in a roll over protection system. The roll bar is often made part of the seat structure of vehicle, or a part of the chassis of the vehicle. The releasable holding mechanism will be fastened rigidly or slightly loose to the roll bar frame, seat frame or the chassis of the vehicle. Between the roll bar and the releasable holding mechanism there will be a connection element that is rigidly or slightly loosely fastened to the roll bar. The arrangement of fastening the connection element rigidly or slightly loosely depends on the tolerances for positioning the actuator towards the roll bar. The connection element is locked or released by the releasable holding mechanism. The releasable holding mechanism is locked/-engaged when the roll bar is pushed downwards whereby the connection element is forced into the releasable holding mechanism. The releasable holding mechanism is to release the connecting element when a signal is sent to the release element of the holding mechanism. The releasable holding mechanism can be activated by one short duration pulse, for instance a pulse from an electronic control unit for activation of airbags in a vehicle. The system can be activated with low energy demands.

Releasable holding mechanism and method of use

A vehicle having a chassis, front wheels each having an axis of rotation, and a suspension assembly for connecting the front wheels to the chassis. The suspension assembly is adapted to allow the front wheels to move transverse to their axes of rotation, but in opposite directions, in order to tilt the chassis. The suspension assembly includes a wheel orientation defining rod coupled to at least one of the front wheels, and a unit for pivotably coupling the wheel orientation defining rod to the chassis. The coupling unit ensures that a wheel orientation of the front wheel defined by the wheel orientation defining rod is essentially independent of movement of the front wheel transverse to the axis of rotation thereof.

An energy absorbing device, for use in a vehicle to absorb impact energy, includes an attachment bracket for fastening a bumper member to a vehicle frame. The bracket includes at least two energy absorbing walls that have apertures to accommodate bolts. Upon a collision, the bolts shear the bracket walls along cutting lines.

Enclosed and described is a bumper comprising an arched member having an outer wall, an inner wall, a hollow interior between the outer wall and the inner wall, and at least one dividing wall or protrusion dividing at least part of the hollow interior into at least two chambers. The arched member has different cross sections along its length. These cross sections include a first cross section on each side of a central portion of the arched member, which first cross section corresponds to the cross section of a blank from which the beam or bumper is produced. A second cross section is provided at the central portion of the arched member, wherein the second cross section exhibits a region that extends outwardly relative to the first cross section. And, a third cross section is provided adjacent to each terminal end of the arched member, wherein the third cross section is generally the same as the first cross section, or is different from the first cross section such that the first cross section exhibits a region that extends outwardly relative to the third cross section.
