A variable leaf capacitor is disclosed. In accordance with some embodiments of the present disclosure, a variable leaf capacitor may comprise a first alternating current coupling capacitor having a first terminal coupled to a first differential node and a second terminal coupled to a first common-mode node, a second alternating current coupling capacitor having a first terminal coupled to a second differential node and a second terminal coupled to a second common-mode node, and a varactor having a bias terminal, a first common-mode terminal coupled to the first common-mode node, and a second common-mode terminal coupled to the second common-mode node, wherein the capacitance of the varactor is based on the voltage from the first common-mode terminal of the varactor to the bias terminal of the varactor and on the voltage from the second common-mode terminal of the varactor to the bias terminal of the varactor.

Frequency tuning and step control of a digitally controlled oscillator

A tunable wideband distribution circuit for transmitting a wireless signal over a transmission line is disclosed. The tunable wideband distribution circuit may include a programmable gain buffer, wherein the gain of the programmable gain buffer is based at least in part on a frequency of the wireless signal. The tunable wideband distribution circuit may also include a tuning element configured to modify an effective impedance of the transmission line based at least on the frequency of the wireless signal, wherein the tuning element is electrically coupled to the transmission line.

In accordance with some embodiments of the present disclosure, a variable inductor may comprise a single-turn conductor comprising a first inductor terminal, a second inductor terminal, a first base portion extending from the first inductor terminal to a first intersection location, a second base portion extending from the second inductor terminal to a second intersection location, and a switched portion extending from the first intersection location to the second intersection location, and a switch comprising a first conductive terminal coupled to the first intersection location and a second conductive terminal coupled to the second intersection location.

In accordance with an embodiment of the present disclosure a phase-locked loop comprises a voltage controlled oscillator (VCO) configured to generate an output signal based on an input reference signal. The phase-locked loop further comprises a first charge pump communicatively coupled to a control input of the VCO and configured to generate, for a duration of time following occurrence of an event, a first control signal. The first control signal is independent of the output signal and is for causing the output signal to have a first frequency based on a second frequency of the input reference signal. The phase-locked loop further comprises a second charge pump communicatively coupled to the control input of the VCO. The second charge pump is configured to generate, after the duration of time, a second control signal. The second control signal is adjusted to lock the output signal with the input reference signal according to a phase difference between the output signal and the input reference signal such that the output signal is synchronized with the input reference signal.

System and method for reducing lock acquisition time of a phase-locked loop

A phase-locked loop includes a voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO) to generate a plurality of quadrature-phase signals at one-half an output frequency in response to bias signals. The VCO also includes a times-two multiplier biased by the bias signals to generate the output frequency from the quadrature-phase signals. The bias signals include a load-element bias signal to concurrently bias load elements of buffer stages of the VCO and substantially identical load elements of the multiplier. The bias signal also include a current-source bias signal to concurrently bias current sources of the buffer stages of the VCO and a substantially identical buffer stage of the multiplier. The VCO operating at one-half the output frequency together with the multiplier may consume less power than the VCO when operating at the output frequency.

Low-power phase-locked-loop and method using quadrature phase-signals at one-half the output frequency

Briefly, in accordance with one embodiment of the invention, an integrated circuit includes an operational amplifier coupled in a circuit configuration. The circuit configuration includes two transistors coupled to the operational amplifier so that the corresponding voltages at the terminals or ports of the transistors are substantially identical. Briefly, in accordance with one more embodiment of the invention, an integrated circuit includes an operational amplifier coupled in a circuit configuration. The circuit configuration includes two circuit components coupled to the operational amplifier so that the corresponding voltages at the terminals or ports of the circuit components are substantially identical. The circuit components include any circuit components capable of implementing a transconductance.
