Provided are improved SIP communication systems and methods for traversing firewalls, NATs, and ALGs. An encapsulation protocol is used to preserve the original SIP message by encapsulating the original SIP message in visible encapsulation protocol of layers+. An encapsulated SIP message is decapsulated after transparently traversing a firewall, NAT, and/or ALG.

Systems and methods for encapsulation based session initiation protocol through network address translation

A system for establishing an Internet Protocol (IP) connection with a terminating node includes an originating node capable of initiating communication with the terminating node. The system also includes an intermediate node located between the originating node and the terminating node. The originating node is capable of initiating communication by either (a) requesting communication with the terminating node via the intermediate node, or (b) notifying the terminating node of incoming data independent of the intermediate node. In this regard, when the originating node initiates communication in accordance with (a), either the originating node or the intermediate node is capable of notifying the terminating node of incoming data. Upon being notified of incoming data, then, the terminating node is capable of registering with the intermediate node to thereby establish an IP connection between the originating node and the terminating node via the intermediate node.

System and method for establishing an Internet Protocol connection with a terminating network node

In response to a request by a mobile terminal for an information resource associated with a generic service name, one wireless network provides an IP address for a first provider of information. Another wireless network, in response to the same generic service name, provides an IP address for a different information provider. Other wireless networks will provide addresses for still other providers. Upper level generic service names include one or more hierarchically-arranged lower levels of generic service names. This tree of generic service names is used to create, in a consistent manner in different wireless networks, a generic directory of accessible information resources. System and method for service naming and related directory structure in a mobile data network

A method and system for routing messages between hosts while maintaining end-to-end location privacy are disclosed. In order to make routing more efficient, while maintaining location privacy, an encapsulation cache may be created in access routers that have a trust relationship with the respective home networks of the hosts. The encapsulation cache can be used to store home-address to care-of-address correspondences so that the access router, when a host is roaming, can route a message directly to the message's intended recipient, yet still maintain location privacy for the sending host by replacing the host's care-of address at the roaming network with the host's home address.
