An apparatus for cutting nails includes single and dual blade embodiments with a frame formed primarily of plastic that includes upper and lower frame members. Numerous variations of a reinforcing member are disclosed. The reinforcing member is embedded in or attached to at least one of the frame members so that a portion, thereof, is preferably disposed in vertical alignment with a force that is applied to at least one of the frame members during use to reduce a magnitude of shear experienced and to also improve an ability to withstand shear. Optional integrally-formed sidewalls provide a container for capturing clippings and also reinforce the frame member thereby reducing flexing while also increasing its ability to withstand shear. Other disclosed innovations include improvements to the lever and blade, automatically file the nail, enhance safety and function, allow customization, improve aesthetics, and lower cost. Numerous other significant improvements are also disclosed.

An apparatus for cutting nails includes a plastic frame with a pair of opposing parallel cutting blades. A first of the pair of blades is attached to an upper half of the frame and a second of the pair of blades is attached to a lower half of the frame. The blades are formed of a material that is different than the frame. A center rod extends through the frame and the cutting blades. The center rod is used to create and transfer a force necessary to sever a fingernail or toenail and to secure a position of the blades with respect to each other. A pivoting lever is used to supply the force to a surface of the blades sufficient to urge the cutting blades toward each other to simultaneously sever the nail. The majority of the forces produced during use are applied directly to the cutting blades.

An apparatus for increasing the stability of a tripod includes a centrally placed base member that includes three perimeter leg assemblies, each of which are adapted to cooperate with one of the legs of the tripod. Each of the leg assemblies includes a generally U-shaped member that surrounds a portion of each tripod leg and which cooperates with the base member so that when a portion of each respective leg assembly is tightened, an extension member is urged outward and into contact with an inside surface of one of the legs which, in turn, urges the leg outward until an outside of the leg bears tightly against an inside of the respective U-shaped member. Each tripod leg is accordingly placed under compression eliminating any possible movement thereby. The three forces that urge the legs outward are disposed radially around a center longitudinal axis, each force separated from both adjoining forces by 120 degrees of arc. The U-shaped members include any preferred size or shape and, if preferred, may be attached to the tripod legs.

An apparatus for stabilizing the legs of a tripod includes a center member that is placed inside and proximate the legs preferably about mid-length. The center member includes three perimeter assemblies that each cooperate with a corresponding leg member. The center member is secured to each leg by the leg member which is either attached to each leg or which passes around each leg and is then secured to each perimeter assembly. When each perimeter assembly is tightened, the center member is urged upwards where it pushes all of the legs outward while each leg member prevents one of the legs from moving outward. Accordingly, each leg is placed in a tension that increases its stability and hence the stability of the tripod.

A method and product for removing at MTBE molecules from a solution, such as a contaminated aquifer, includes exposing the solution to a plurality of molecularly imprinted polymer beads (MIPS) that have receptor sites on the surfaces thereof that include imprints that match the physical shape of at least a portion of an MTBE molecule. A quantity of the MTBE molecules align with and adhere to some of the receptor sites and, accordingly, they are removed from the solution producing a remediated solution. According to one embodiment, the MIPS are contained in an enclosure having a plurality of openings large enough to permit the solution to pass through and small enough so as to prevent the MIPS from passing through. According to a preferred embodiment the MIPS are applied (i.e., coated) to the inside surface of a conduit and the solution is forced or allowed to flow through the conduit thereby removing some of the MTBE molecules therefrom.

Method for removing the gasoline additive MTBE from water using molecularly imprinted polymers

A watchdog circuit for improving the possibility of recovery from failures, such as those caused by static discharge or RF interference, in a data processing system. A data processing system includes a main, multi-chip processor for handling the main computational burden and a single-chip processor for handling I/O functions. Additionally, the main processor periodically sends status to the single-chip processor. If the single-chip processor does not receive status within a predetermined period it generates a reset signal to the main processor. In response to the reset signal the main processor interrogates the single-chip processor to determine if the reset was caused by a failure or a power-on condition. Because of its self contained construction the single-chip processor is less susceptible to static induced failures and will improve the recovery capabilities of the system when used to monitor the main processor.

Watchdog circuit

An improved bird feeder utilizing a sectional roof assembly with an elastomeric material joining a fixed roof section to a second movable roof section. The elastomeric material serves as both an environmental seal and as a hinge to allow easy access to the seed storage area. A flow rate block intermediate the base and a movable wall of the feeder allows bird seed to flow from the interior of the feeder at a rate dependent on the position of the flow rate block.
