A system and method of managing network resources is provided, in which a resource usage threshold for an access node to which a wireless device is connected, wherein the wireless device is configured for communication in both of a first communication mode and a second communication mode is set; a resource usage of the access node in the first communication mode is monitored; the monitored resource usage to the resource usage threshold is compared; and in response to a determination that the resource usage exceeds the resource usage threshold, the wireless device is caused to switch from the first communication mode to the second communication mode.

Dynamic rat assignment for dual-capable iot devices

Methods and systems for selecting a primary component carrier for use in new radio (NR) carrier aggregation are described. A load of a first Dynamic Shared Spectrum (DSS) component carrier is monitored. When the load of the first DSS component carrier reaches a threshold value, an identification of one or more NR user equipment that are assigned to use the first DSS component carrier as a primary component carrier for carrier aggregation is made. The one or more NR user equipment are handed over from the first component carrier to a second component carrier for use as a primary component carrier for the one or more NR user equipment. Methods and systems for selecting a secondary component carrier for use in NR carrier aggregation are also described. A load of a first DSS component carrier is monitored, wherein the carrier is assigned as the secondary component carrier for one or more NR user equipment. A determination is made that the load of the first DSS component carrier has reached a threshold value. A second component carrier is re-assigned as the secondary component carrier for the one or more NR user equipment.

Dynamic determination of optimal primary and secondary component carriers

Systems and methods are provided for optimizing network resources. The method includes setting a first resource usage threshold for wireless devices connected to an access node. The method additionally includes monitoring resource usage of the connected wireless devices and comparing the monitored resource usage to the first resource usage threshold. The method further includes dynamically restricting wireless device access to at least one area characterized by signal performance parameters in a first predetermined range when the monitored resource usage meets the first resource usage threshold.
