A method and apparatus for a base station engaging in transmissions via at least a media access layer with a user entity are disclosed. The base station transmits data to the user entity over a high speed scheduling and packet data scheduling channels. The base station has a plurality of hybrid automatic repeat request (HARQ) entities cooperating with a scheduler for transmitting frames from at least the base station to the user entity for a given HARQ process. Each HARQ entity receives either a not acknowledge or an acknowledge signal or detects a discontinuous transmission for a given HARQ process. The base station transmits a next data indicator to the user entity. The user entity has at least one buffer associated with a given HARQ process. The buffer stores and performs incremental combining of received data relating to data from the base station. The buffer is capable of being flushed.

Next data indicator handling

A method of scheduling data for transmission over the air interface of a wideband code division multiple access network, said data being transported over the air interface on a downlink shared channel. The method comprises receiving data in the form of IP packets at a radio network controller, segmenting said IP packets into protocol data units, and forwarding said protocol data units from the radio network controller to a radio base station serving one or more user terminals. The radio network controller identifies to the radio base station the protocol data units belonging to a common IP packet. At the radio base station, each protocol data unit is scheduled for transmission over the air interface in dependence upon the IP packet to which it belongs.

Packet scheduling in a radio access system

A first interface for receiving downlink data packets from a core network, a second interface for transmitting data packets to user entities, a processor comprising a scheduler, a first memory partition comprising and parameter data pertaining to a first subset of allocated priority queues, a second memory partition comprising parameter data pertaining to a second subset of allocated priority queues, is provided. The processor is transferring parameter data between the first and second memory partitions, and vice versa, whereby parameter data for priority queues having no data packets in corresponding buffers is prioritized for being transferred to the first memory partition, parameter data for priority queues having data packets in corresponding buffers is prioritized for being transferred to the second memory partition, the processor performing scheduling based on a selection of priority queues whose parameter data is residing in the second memory partition.
