In some examples, a user device receives, from a source federation site of the source domain, an authentication token for use at a target federation site of the target domain, the authentication token from a user memory that correlates the authentication token to first user credentials useable in the source domain. The user device sends, to the target federation site, the authentication token, and receives, from the target federation site, a request authentication token from a second memory that correlates the authentication token to the request authentication token. The user device sends the request authentication token to an authentication federation emulator that comprises an emulator memory correlating the request authentication token and second user credentials useable in the target domain, and receives the second user credentials from the emulator memory of the authentication federation emulator.

Emulation of federative authentication

An authenticated session with a remote system is established and identified through an authentication token for the session. During that session, a resource is accessed requiring additional authentication beyond what the authentication token was originally authorized for. Out-of-band processing from the existing session performs the additional authentication and permission from the authentication token are upgraded to include permissions for accessing the resource during the session. The resource is accessed during the session with the authentication token having the upgraded permissions.

Multi-factor authentication

A data processing system () comprises: a database (); a host computer () and a user computer () capable of communicating with each other over a network (); wherein the user computer sends a data request message (RQ) to the host computer (), the request message containing Data information (RD), Identity information (RI), and Authenticity information (A; VI), wherein the host computer () checks the authentication information and only sends the required data if the Identity information (RI) defines an authorized user and the authentication information (A; VI) authenticates the user identification information. The request message further contains secondary information (RT) and the host computer () calculates, from the secondary-information, a reliability value (R), compares the calculated reliability value with a predefined reliability threshold, and sends the required data only if the reliability value is at least as high as the reliability threshold.
