A method and system for treating exhaust emitted via an exhaust line from a diesel engine. A POC system is installed on the exhaust line, and has at least one diesel oxidation catalyst (DOC), a set of two or more particulate oxidation catalyst (POC) elements, a first differential pressure sensor (&#x394;P1) to measure the pressure difference across the first and all but the last POC elements, and a second differential pressure sensor (&#x394;P2) to measure pressure differences across the last POC element. During operation of the engine, &#x394;P1 is monitored to determine whether its POC elements require active regeneration, and &#x394;P2 is separately monitored to determine whether its (the last) POC element requires active regeneration.

Particulate oxidation catalyst with dual pressure-drop sensors

The present invention relates to an apparatus and method for vaporizing a fluid to improve performance of a selective catalytic reduction catalyst. A vaporizer including a plurality of flow channels having an increased surface area may facilitate vaporization and mixing of the fluid in, e.g., an engine exhaust or gas containing nitrous oxides. The vaporizer may be located in an exhaust system downstream of a fluid injection site and upstream of a selective catalytic reduction catalyst. The exhaust discharged from the selective catalytic reduction catalyst may have a reduced concentration of nitrogen oxides.

Apparatus and method for assisting selective catalytic reduction

A selective non-catalytic reduction apparatus for exhaust gases comprising a reactor for elevated temperature reduction of NOx comprising an injection zone, internal structure zone and rear zone. The internal structure zone includes packing materials and provides a surface area of 5.0 m/g to 20 m/g where the packing material is present in the reactor at a level of 10% to 50% of the reactor volume. The reactor provides one or more of the following: (1) a residence time for exhaust gas of 0.1 seconds to 5.0 seconds; (2) a pressure drop of less than or equal to 1400 Pa/m at an exhaust gas velocity of 1.0 meter/second.

The present invention is directed at ketone/water mixtures for treating gas mixtures containing nitric oxides (NOx). The chemical reduction of NOx by the ketone/water mixture affords a relatively less objectionable combustion waste product for discharge into the atmosphere. The gas mixture for treatment of the ketone/water mixture may be preferably regulated to have a level of oxygen of at or below 5.0 vol. %.
