Disclosed herein is an image pickup apparatus including, a lens driving control section configured to execute driving control of a lens, and a main control section configured to produce lens driving control information as setting information of a lens driving mode of the lens driving control section, the main control section produces lens driving control information which includes a final setting position for the lens and a returning amount as a distance over which the lens is returned after the lens passes the setting position, the lens driving control section being operable to execute a process of moving the lens to pass the setting position once in response to the setting position and the returning amount and then execute a returning process by the returning amount to position the lens to the setting position.

Image pickup apparatus and lens position adjustment method

An image pickup apparatus includes an imaging element having a group of AF pixel pairs that realizes a pupil-dividing function and a group of normal pixels without such a pupil-dividing function. The image pickup apparatus performs focus control for driving a focus lens toward an in-focus position detected by phase different AF based on a pixel signal generated from the group of AF pixel pairs when it is determined that the reliability of the phase difference AF is high based on the pixel signal. The image pickup apparatus performs focus control for driving a focus lens in an in-focus direction detected by contrast AF based on a pixel signal generated from the group of normal pixels when it is determined that the reliability of the phase difference AF is low.

Image pickup apparatus and focus control method

An imaging device includes an imaging unit that obtains an image signal relating to a subject, a driving unit that drives a focus lens, a first detecting unit that performs focus detection based on a contrast detection method to detect an in-focus position of the focus lens, a second detecting unit that performs focus detection based on a phase difference detection method, while the focus lens is being driven toward the in-focus position, to detect a provisional in-focus position of the focus lens, and an in-focus control unit that controls the driving unit to drive the focus lens to pass through the provisional in-focus position and then return to the in-focus position. Focus detection information is obtained at least for a given range of positions, and is stored in a predetermined storage unit. The in-focus position is detected based on the stored focus detection information.

Imaging device and in-focus control method

A region in a captured image is set as a signal detection region, and signals from an CMOS sensor of the rolling shutter exposure type are detected only in an exposure period corresponding to the signal detection region to produce an evaluated value, after which a focusing lens is moved to a focusing lens position for acquiring a next evaluated value. Since the signal detection region is a partial region in the captured image, a long detection quiescent time is kept between signal detection periods corresponding to every two horizontal synchronizing periods. By moving the focusing lens in the detection quiescent time, the evaluated value is acquired and the focusing lens is moved in each horizontal synchronizing period.
