A frame interpolation apparatus receives moving images from an image generating apparatus that outputs moving images by increasing the number of frames by adding n units (n being a natural number) of copy frame following each frame of the moving images. A frame acquisition unit samples a frame from the moving images in cycles of (n+1) frames. An interpolated frame generation unit generates an interpolated frame to be inserted between the frames sampled by the frame acquisition unit. An identity determining unit determines the identity of successive frames of the moving images. A sampling point changing unit shifts a sampling point while keeping fixed cycles when there is a succession of less than or more than (n+1) frames determined to be identical by the identity determining unit and besides a certain condition is met.

Frame interpolation apparatus

An input unit writes, into a memory unit, frames successively input from the outside. An interpolated frame generating unit reads multiple original frames from the memory unit, generates an interpolated frame between the original frames, and writes the interpolated frame into the memory unit. An output unit retrieves original frames and an interpolated frame from the memory unit and outputs to the outside the frames in the order in which the frames are to be displayed. The input unit, interpolated frame generating unit, and output unit operate in parallel to perform pipeline processing. Operation timing of each of the input unit and the interpolated frame generating unit is determined so that the timing at which the input unit writes an original frame into the memory unit differs from the timing at which the interpolated frame generating unit writes an interpolated frame into the memory unit.

Frame rate converter and display apparatus equipped therewith

When a character is present in a line adjacent to a concerned section, bordering is applied to a dot in the concerned section adjacent to that line. To avoid unnecessary bordering, when processing a head line of the concerned part, data on the head line is read instead of the data on a line above the head line. Alternatively, data on a line above the head line is all changed to background data. A last display line is similarly processed.

Character reading circuit

Data about display start positions are stored in an H register. An H start counter counts an original oscillation signal ORGCLK after the termination of a flyback period, and a comparator detects a start position. Flip flops and NOR gates form a clock having a cycle one and a half times as long as that of the original oscillation signal from the start position, and either the signal having a 1.5-fold cycle or the original oscillation signal is selected according to the level of a mode signal MODE. Thus, it is possible to obtain a clock OSDCLK having a frequency the same as that of the original oscillation signal up to the start position and a clock OSDCLK having a frequency corresponding to magnification from a display position. Therefore, by controlling display of characters based on the clock OSDCLK, display start positions can be made even regardless of magnification.

Character display control circuit

A comment statement provided within a program code statement is detected, and a processing according to a special command for executing an effect if such a special command is present in the comment statement is executed. The original program code statement may be ignored. Thus, an improved apparatus and an old apparatus can be operated using the same program, and the improved apparatus can execute the special command statement.

Apparatus and method for program execution

The present image reproduction apparatus detects a comment statement provided to a program code statement, and executes a processing according to a special command for executing an image effect inherent in the image reproduction apparatus if such a special command is present in the comment statement, ignoring the original program code statement. Thus, an improved type image reproduction apparatus and an old type image reproduction apparatus can be operated together, and the improved apparatus can execute such a special command statement.
