A liquid electrolyte, for an electrochemical gas sensor for detecting NHor gas mixtures containing NH, contains at least one solvent, one conductive salt and/or one organic mediator. The conductive salt is an ionic liquid, an inorganic salt, an organic salt or a mixture thereof. The electrolyte preferably is comprised of (I) water, propylene carbonate, ethylene carbonate or a mixture thereof as solvent; (ii) LiCl, KCl, tetrabutylammonium toluenesulphonate or 1-hexyl-3-methylimidazolium tris(pentafluoroethyl)trifluorophosphate as conductive salt; and (iii) tert-butylhydroquinone or anthraquinone-2-sulphonate as organic mediator.

Liquid electrolyte for an electrochemical gas sensor

An electrochemical gas sensor measures gaseous components in an air/gas mixture. A measuring electrode and a counterelectrode, with an electrolyte located therebetween, are arranged in the sensor housing. A diffusion barrier is configured to set a gas flow of the gas intended for the concentration determination to the measuring electrode from a surrounding area. The diffusion barrier is located in the sensor housing. At least one gas-permeable, hydrophobic pressure absorption element covers the diffusion barrier and is provided between the diffusion barrier and the measuring electrode, in the interior of the sensor housing and on an inner surface of the sensor housing. The inner surface has a mean roughness depth Rthat is lower than or equal to 2 &#x3bc;m at least in an area on which the pressure absorption element lies.

Electrochemical gas sensor

An electrochemical gas sensor () has a housing (), a working electrode (), a counterelectrode () and a reference electrode (). The housing () has an electrolyte reservoir (), a gas inlet orifice () and at least one gas outlet orifice (). The electrolyte reservoir () is filled with a liquid electrolyte (). The gas sensor () has a counterelectrode carrier (). The counterelectrode () is suspended on the counterelectrode carrier () in such a way that the counterelectrode () is suspended in the electrolyte reservoir () and the electrolyte () flows around the counterelectrode () on all sides. Preferably, the electrolyte includes (I) a solvent, e.g. water, propylene carbonate, ethylene carbonate or mixtures thereof; (ii) a conductive salt, especially an ionic liquid; and/or (iii) an organic mediator, for example substituted quinones, anthraquinones, etc.

Electrochemical gas sensor, liquid electrolyte and use of a liquid electrolyte in an electrochemical gas sensor

A gas sensor with a housing () has an optical signal transmission to the environment of the gas sensor (). At least one light-emitting diode () is arranged in the housing () on the inner side of a disk () that is transparent to light. At least one optical light guide (), for coupling in the light of the light-emitting diode (), is arranged in the housing () on the outer side of the disk () that is transparent to light. The optical light guide () extends up to the outer surface () of the housing ().

Gas sensor with an especially explosion-proof housing

A breath alcohol measuring device () is provided with features for superior handling especially of the replaceable mouthpiece (). A direct physical contact between the test subject being tested and the measuring device is practically ruled out by the combination. The mouthpiece () of the breath alcohol measuring device () has a trapezoidal cross section, which is complementary to a corresponding negative shape in a holder () of the breath alcohol measuring device () for the flush mounting of the mouthpiece ().

An electrochemical gas sensor with a stacked arrangement of electrodes and nonwoven layers arranged in parallel, comprising at least one measuring electrode () and at least one counterelectrode (). A porous membrane () that is permeable to air is in contact with the stacked arrangement of electrodes and nonwoven layers arranged in parallel at least on one side, at least one layer of a hydrophilic nonwoven () is located between the electrodes. The porous membrane () that is permeable to air and the hydrophilic nonwoven () extend into a separate equalization volume (), which is filled with electrolyte at least partially and is located at least partially in one plane with the electrodes. The separate equalization volume () surrounds the electrode arrangement at least partially in this plane, and the porous membrane () that is permeable to air is exposed to ambient pressure at least in partial areas. Such sensors are characterized by a flat shape, high insensitivity to shocks, independence from the position, and high tolerance to variations in environmental humidity.

A gas sensor is provided that is delimited from the environment with a preferably replaceable cap () made of a porous, gas-permeable and water-impermeable material, especially sintered PTFE. The gas sensor is protected against environmental moisture and can be permanently provided with the cap () and with a special calibrating adapter () both during the gas measurement and during the necessary calibration. Due to the special design of the cap () and the calibrating adapter (), the gas sensor offers the possibility of remote calibration, which can be carried out with high accuracy and is independent from weather effects, especially wind.

Gas sensor

A breath alcohol measuring device includes a flow chamber, for receiving exhaled breathing gas of a person, with a flow diaphragm. A differential pressure sensor has a first measuring connection via a first gas line () to the interior space of the flow chamber () upstream of the flow diaphragm (), and a second measuring connection via second and third gas lines () and a breath alcohol sensor () to the interior space of the flow chamber () downstream of the flow diaphragm (). A throttling element () is present in the second gas line (). The second gas line () is connected to a sampling system (), and an evaluating and control unit () is connected to the sensors () and to the sampling system () for controlling the sampling system.

Device and process for measuring breath alcohol

An explosion-proof gas sensor has a measuring element (), which generates a measured signal that depends on the concentration of the measured gas and is delimited against the environment by means of a porous, gas-permeable and sintered metal body (). The sintered metal body () has a high mechanical stability, so that the use of additional components, which hinder the diffusion of the gas to be measured into the gas sensor and thus prolong the response time of the gas sensor, can be eliminated.

Explosion-proof gas sensor

A gas sensor () with a detector element (), which is specific to a gas to be measured and sends a measured signal that depends on the measured gas concentration, has increased measuring sensitivity for measurements in the concentration range from less than 1 ppb to a few ppb. The detector element () is exposed in a gas admission adapter () to a gas to be measured via a diaphragm () arranged in front of the detector element (), wherein the gas admission adapter () has at least a first opening () for the entry of the gas to be measured as well as at least a second opening (), which is connected with a pressure modulator, which generates periodic gas pressure vibrations in the gas admission adapter () and is designed, for example, as a pump ().

Gas sensor with increased measuring sensitivity

The invention is directed to an electrochemical measuring cell 1 for detecting different gas components. The electrochemical measuring cell includes several measuring electrodes (8, 12, 13), a common counter electrode 21 and a common reference electrode 20 in an aqueous electrolyte 3. The measuring electrodes each include a diffusion membrane (7, 11) and individual diaphragms (9, 14) limiting the inflow of gas to the individual measuring electrodes (8, 12). The diffusion membranes (7, 11) cover the measuring electrodes (8, 12, 13). The measuring cell 1 is so improved that the selectivity of the detection of different gas components is improved. An electrolyte barrier 19 is provided at least between one of the measuring electrodes 8 and the remaining measuring electrodes (12, 13). The electrolyte barrier 19 prevents lateral diffusion within the diffusion membrane (7, 11).

Electrochemical measuring cell

The present invention pertains to an electronic measuring cell for detecting components in fluid media. Such a measuring cell is to be improved such that hermetic sealing of the contact wires leading out of the measuring cell is possible in a housing of a slightly modified design to prevent electrolyte from escaping. To achieve this, an annular space extending in parallel to the circumferential direction of the housing between the measuring cell cover and the housing is filled with an electrolyte- and temperature-resistant sealing material, and the contact wires are led through.
