A chain link having a strip which includes warp yarns and weft yarns is provided, with the warp yarns containing a warp yarn A and a warp yarn B, with the minimum creep rate of warp yarn B being higher than the minimum creep rate of warp yarn A, wherein the strip comprises a longitudinal core section and at least two longitudinal edge sections, and wherein the concentration of warp yarn A in the core section is higher than the concentration of yarn A in the edge sections of the strip and the concentration of warp yarn B in the edge sections is higher than the concentration of warp yarn B in the core section of the strip. The invention also relates to a chain comprising said chain link and to use of said chain in different applications.

Hybrid chain link

A chain includes a plurality of interconnected chain links, wherein at least one of the chain links comprises a Turk's head braided core having at least two consecutive turns of at least one primary strand. The at least one primary strand includes polymeric elongated elements having a tenacity of at least 1.0 N/tex.

The present invention concerns a rope health monitoring system and a rope for such rope health monitoring system whereby the rope comprises objects which are remotely detectable, readable and programmable identification (ID) tags and whereby the rope monitoring system comprises said rope, at least one ID tag reader device mounted along said predetermined path of the rope, to detect at least the identity and optionally the historic health status and/or at least one physical rope parameters of the individual rope section provided with and identified by the at least one ID tag, at least one ID tag writing device, to write a new health status of the individual rope section to the at least one ID tag, at least one means to measure at least one rope operation parameter, a computing unit provided with data, whereby the computing unit is equipped with an algorithm capable to compute the relative longitudinal positioning of individual sections of the rope and the additional damage or damages suffered by individual sections of the rope, compute and record the new health status of the individual sections of the rope, store the new health status of the individual section of the rope in the corresponding programmable ID tag of the rope.

Smart hoisting rope

The invention relates to an endless shaped article comprising at least one strip of material forming a plurality of convolutions of the strip of material, the strip having a longitudinal axis, wherein each convolution of said strip comprises a twist along the longitudinal axis of said strip, wherein said twist is an odd multiple of 180 degrees. The invention also relates to a method to manufacture said article, and its use as sling, loop, belt or chain link.

A chain is provided which includes a plurality of interconnected chain-links. At least one chain-link of the chain has a braided core which includes a first primary strand having polymeric elongated elements having a tenacity of at least 1.0 N/tex. The braided core is braided from at least 2 consecutive turns of the primary strand. Structures are provided with rigid elements connected together by interconnecting elements in such a way to form a statically determined or statically over-determined structure. The structure includes at least one tension element formed of polymeric fibers having a stabilizing creep of at least 0.3% and at most 10% and a minimum creep rate lower than 1&#xd7;10% per second, wherein the said stabilizing creep and minimum creep are measured at a tension of 900 MPa and a temperature of 30&#xb0; C. The structures may include, for example, framing structures (e.g., a space frame), suspended bodies, platforms, (e.g., a marine platform), or spoked wheels.

The invention relates to an offshore drilling or production vessel comprising a platform and a mooring system attached thereto, said mooring system comprising: i.) a support frame with a winch-drum mounted thereon; ii.) a mooring line for mooring said platform to the ocean floor, said mooring line comprising a first portion and a second portion; wherein said first portion is hauled on and paid off by said winch-drum; wherein said second portion is anchored to the ocean floor; characterized in that the mooring line is a single length mooring line comprising high strength polyolefin fibers; wherein the first portion of the mooring line has a first mass (M1) of polyolefin fibers per unit length and the second portion of the mooring line has a second mass (M2) of polyolefin fibers per unit length; wherein the ratio M1/M2 is greater than 1 and wherein said first portion extends continuously into said second portion through a tapered portion of the mooring line.

The present invention relates to a chain comprising a plurality of chain links comprising a polymeric fiber and wherein said chain comprises at least one spacer having a thickness &#x394; at the contact location through which loads are directly transmitted between said chain links and a ratio &#x394;/&#x3c4;=f, with &#x3c4; being the thickness of any of the chain links at the contact location through which loads are directly transmitted between said chain links and f being in a range between 0.10 and 2.50. The invention further relates to the use said chain for storing, securing, lashing and tying down for handling and transporting cargo, in lifting and hoisting, logging, hauling and rigging, propulsion and driving, mooring, cargo-hold of an aircraft or naval ship.

Chain comprising polymeric links and a spacer

The invention relates to a high strength fibers comprising a coating of cross-linked silicone polymer, and ropes made thereof. The fibers are preferably high performance polyethylene (HPPE) fibers. The coating comprising a cross-linked silicone polymer is made from a coating composition comprising a cross-linkable silicone polymer. The rope shows markedly improved service life performance in bending applications such as cyclic bend-over-sheave applications. The invention also relates to the use of a cross-linked silicone polymer in a rope for an improvement of bend fatigue resistance.

Coated high strength fibers

The invention relates to a rope containing a plurality of strands comprising a mixture of high-performance polyethylene fibres and polytetrafluoroethylene fibres in a mass ratio of 70:30 to 98:2. The rope shows markedly improved service life performance in cyclic bend-over-sheave applications. The invention also relates to the use of said rope as a load-bearing member in bend-over-sheave applications.

Rope containing high-performance polyethylene fibres

The invention relates to a braided rope for bend-over-sheave applications consisting essentially of n braided primary strands being made of polymeric filaments, which rope has an oblong cross-section with aspect ratio in the range 1.2-4.0. Such a rope shows markedly improved service life performance in cyclic bend-over-sheave applications. The invention also relates to the use of a braided rope according to the invention as a load-bearing member in bend-over-sheave applications; and to a system comprising such a rope and at least one sheave with a groove, the dimensions of which groove are adapted to the rope dimensions.
