A light-based skin treatment device is for treating skin by laser induced optical breakdown of hair or skin tissue. A focusing system has an exit focusing lens for focusing the incident light beam into a focal spot in the hair or skin tissue. This lens has a central aperture. This serves to reduce back-reflectance from the lens surface, which can cause damage to the focusing system.

Light based skin treatment device

According to an aspect, there is provided a method for minimising error in ambient light corrected (ALC) images due to motion. The method comprises capturing a plurality of primary images of an object over a time window, with controlled illumination of the object varying over time, performing ambient light correction on at least a portion of the plurality of primary images to generate a plurality of ambient light corrected images, each ALC image being generated based on demodulating a sub-set of the plurality of primary images with differing controlled illumination, calculating an error value for pairs of ALC images, each pair of ALC images including a first ALC image and a second ALC image and comparing the error values for each pair of ALC images and selecting an error-minimised image from the pair of ALC images having the lowest error value within the time window Calculating the error value comprises comparing each pixel of the first ALC image with a corresponding pixel of the second ALC image, and determining a change in intensity for each pixel between the first ALC image and the second ALC image, and calculating an error value for the pair of ALC images based on the change in intensity over a plurality of pixels.

Method and image capturing apparatus

According to an aspect, there is provided a treatment device for performing a treatment operation on or to a subject. The treatment device comprises: an optical diffuser arranged on the treatment device such that an outer surface of the optical diffuser is proximate to, or in contact with, skin of the subject when the treatment device is to be used to perform the treatment operation; and an imaging unit for obtaining one or more images using light passing through the optical diffuser into the treatment device; wherein the treatment device is further configured for providing one or more images to a processing unit for determination of whether the treatment device is in contact with the skin.

Treatment device and method

The present invention relates to perfusion analysis. In order to provide a facilitated way of achieving and providing perfusion analysis, a device () for perfusion analysis is provided that comprises a data input (), a data processor () and an output interface (). The data input is configured to provide X-ray based 2D angiographic image data as first image data of a region of interest of a subject; wherein the first image data comprises information about a distribution of contrast agent in tissue areas of the region of interest being indicative for perfusion; and to provide 2D optical perfusion measurement image data as second image data of a surface layer of a flat part of the region of interest of the subject; wherein the second image data comprises information about blood related properties of blood present within the surface layer of the flat part of the region of interest. The data processor is configured to register the first image data and the second image data; and to transfer perfusion related image content from the second image data to the first image data, generating enhanced first image data. The output interface is configured to provide the enhanced first image data.

Perfusion analysis

In an embodiment, a method () is described. The method comprises receiving () data corresponding to an ambient-corrected image of a subject illuminated by an illumination unit () providing temporally modulated illumination with a modulation frequency that is higher than a frame acquisition rate used by an imaging device () to obtain a set of images having a different spatial intensity modulation pattern in each image. The ambient-corrected image is constructed from the obtained set of images. The method () further comprises determining () a signal-to-noise ratio, SNR, of at least a portion of the ambient-corrected image. In response to determining that the SNR is below a target SNR, the method causes () an indication of an illumination parameter to be sent to the illumination unit to increase an amplitude modulation depth of the temporally modulated illumination used to illuminate the subject while the imaging device acquires a subsequent set of images for constructing a subsequent ambient-corrected image.

Signal-to-noise ratio targeting

The present invention discloses a device and a method for controlling growth of hair on human skin with low doses of electromagnetic radiation, and a device for carrying out the method. In the method, radiation of a suitable spectrum is applied to the skin, in one or more pulses of between 1 and 100 ms, and with maximum fluencies on the skin between 1 and 12 J/cm2. By applying such low fluencies and at controlled pulse durations, follicles of the hairs are induced to the catagen phase. This means that the growth of the hairs of those follicles will stop. Although the method is not primarily aimed at immediate hair removal, hairs may be shed subsequently. In any case, further growth may be stopped for prolonged periods of time. The main advantage of the method is that the risk of damage to the skin is minimized.

Device and method for low intensity optical hair growth control

In an embodiment, a method () is described. The method is a computer-implemented method. The method comprises receiving () pixel information corresponding to at least part of a first, second and third image, acquired by an imaging system, of a subject illuminated by temporally modulated illumination. A time delay between an acquisition start time of the first, second and third images is such that there is an overlap in time during acquisition of the first, second and third images. The method further comprises determining () modified pixel information for constructing a modified image of the subject. The modified pixel information is determined based on: a difference between the received pixel information of the first, second and third images to reduce an effect of ambient lighting in the received pixel information; and a combination of the received pixel information to cancel out a spatial intensity modulation pattern apparent in each of the first, second and third images. The spatial intensity modulation pattern is due to a timing relationship between an imaging time period over which the imaging system acquires each image and a modulation time period of the temporally modulated illumination.

Determining pixel information

According to an aspect, there is provided an imaging system () for imaging of subjects. The imaging system () comprises: a spectral camera () configured to capture a spectral image of a subject () in a spectral capture period comprising a plurality of spectral time points, the spectral image comprising a plurality of spectral frames cach captured at a wavelength of a plurality of wavelengths and each corresponding to a spectral time point of the plurality of spectral time points: a reference camera () configured to capture a reference image of the subject () in a reference capture period comprising a plurality of reference time points and corresponding to the spectral capture period, the reference image comprising a plurality of reference frames each corresponding to a reference time point of the plurality of reference time points and a spectral frame of the plurality of spectral frames: a calculation unit () configured to calculate a motion vector for each reference frame of a subset of the plurality of reference frames: and an alignment unit () configured to align the spectral frames with each other by applying each calculated motion vector to the spectral frame of the plurality of spectral frames to which it corresponds. According to other aspects, there is provided an imaging method for imaging of subjects and a computer program which, when executed on a computing device, carries out a method of imaging of subjects.

Imaging system and imaging method

A hair cutting device for cutting hair on a body of a subject includes a light source for generating laser light at one or more specific wavelengths corresponding to wavelengths absorbed by one or more chromophores in hair; and a cutting element that has an optical waveguide that is coupled to the light source to receive laser light. A portion of a side wall of the optical waveguide forms a cutting face for contacting hair where, at least at the cutting face, the optical waveguide has a refractive index that is equal to or lower than the refractive index of hair and higher than the refractive index of skin.

Hair cutting device

In an embodiment, a method () is described. The method includes accessing () data from a sequence of images of a subject illuminated with ambient light and illumination having a sinusoidal intensity modulation in time. An imaging device is used to obtain the sequence of images and is configured such that a different spatial intensity modulation pattern is apparent in consecutive images of the sequence. The method further includes determining (), based on a set of measured pixel intensity values in each of the sequence of images, a set of revised pixel intensity values for generating a revised image of the subject such that a reduced level of ambient lighting is apparent in the revised image compared with the level of ambient lighting apparent in at least one of the sequence of images.

Determining pixel intensity values in imaging

There is provided a system for performing ambient light image correction. The system comprises a light source, a rolling shutter imaging unit configured to capture a plurality of images of the object at an exposure time shorter than the wave period of the pulsed illumination from the light source, and a control unit configured to generate a first composite image comprising a plurality of bright bands from the plurality of captured images by combining sections from the plurality of captured images which correspond to bright bands, generate a second composite image comprising a plurality of dark bands from the plurality of captured images by combining sections from the plurality of captured images which correspond to dark bands, and generate an ambient light corrected image based on a difference in pixel information between the first composite image and the second composite image.

System for performing ambient light image correction

A system includes a sensor for measuring a skin parameter. The sensor includes at least three spatially separated light sources for providing unpolarized visible light, a detector located at a first distance from each of the light sources selected from the range of 10-80 mm and at a second distance from the skin, and a polarizer including one or more of a segmented polarizer and a spatially varying polarizer. In a sensing mode, the light sources are configured to sequentially illuminate the skin with the light with optical axes at an angle of incidence selected from the range of 10&#xb0;-80&#xb0;, and the detector is configured to sequentially detect light reflected from the skin and generate corresponding detector signals.

Skin gloss measurement using Brewster's angle

A pulsed laser skin treatment device is for laser induced optical breakdown of hair or skin tissue. The device has a light exit window to be placed against a surface to be treated such as skin during use. A feedback system is used for determining a state of contact between the light exit window and the surface. To this end the feedback system is capable of detecting a feedback signal representative for the state of contact. If the feedback signal or the state of contact is such that the risk of skin surface or device damage by the device operation is too high, the user or the device has a way to interrupt the treatment or to reduce light output to reduce or eliminate this risk.

There is provided an apparatus comprising: a base substrate and a component substrate having at least two electronic components arranged thereon. At least one aperture is formed through an entire thickness of the component substrate. The at least one aperture is formed in an interspace between the at least two electronic components. The component substrate is coupled to the base substrate using a solder joint. Each of the at least two electronic components may comprise a light emitting diode element. A method of manufacturing an apparatus is also disclosed.
