Methods and systems for augmented geological service characterization are described. An embodiment of a method includes generating a geological service characterization process in response to one or more geological service objectives and a geological service experience information set. Such a method may also include augmenting the geological service characterization process by machine learning in response to a training information set. Additionally, the method may include generating an augmented geological service characterization process in response to the determination information.

Systems and methods presented herein are configured to monitor gas storage in a well and, more specifically, to invert optical measurements to predict the fractional molar composition of an unknown composition of a gas mixture comprised of hydrogen, carbon dioxide, other gases, or combinations thereof, in any underground reservoir or salt dome where hydrogen, carbon dioxide, and/or the other gases are stored or exist.

Systems and methods for monitoring gas storage in underground reservoirs

Sonic logging data including a sonic waveform associated with a plurality of shot gathers is accessed. A transformation operator is applied to the sonic logging data to provide a transformed sonic image, the transformation operator including at least one of a short time average long time average (STA/LTA) operator, a phase shift operator, and a deconvolution operator. A machine learning process is performed using the transformed sonic image to determine a sonic slowness associated with the sonic logging data. The sonic slowness is provided as an output.

Method and device for determining sonic slowness

A methods are provided for investigating a sample containing hydrocarbons by subjecting the sample to a nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) sequence using NMR equipment, using the NMR equipment to detect signals from the sample in response to the NMR sequence, analyzing the signals to extract a distribution of relaxation times (or diffusions), and computing a value for a parameter of the sample as a function of at least one of the relaxation times (or diffusions), wherein the computing utilizes a correction factor that modifies the value for the parameter as a function of relaxation time for at least short relaxation times (or as a function of diffusion for at least large diffusion coefficients).

Methods of investigating formation samples using NMR data

Anisotropic elastic properties and subsequently in situ stress properties for a rock formation surrounding a wellbore are computed from rock physics and geomechanical models. Mineralogy data measured from DRIFTS on cuttings from the wellbore and rock physics and geomechanical models that have been log-calibrated in another wellbore are used in the computation. The method includes: (1) Defining and calibrating rock physics and geomechanical models using data from the first wellbore; (2) using DRIFTS analysis to measure mineralogy data on rock cuttings obtained through drilling operation in the second wellbore; and (3) using previously calibrated models to estimate in situ stress properties, including a stress index and the minimum principal stress magnitude.

In situ stress properties

Methods and systems are provided for investigating a rock sample, in which wideband electromagnetic response data are obtained and processed by inversion in order to determine values for a plurality of parameters of the rock sample. The wideband electromagnetic response data is derived from electromagnetic measurements of the rock sample at frequencies that fall within a wideband of frequencies, wherein the wideband of frequencies includes a low frequency sub-band that is sensitive to conductivity of the rock sample and a high frequency sub-band that is sensitive to the permittivity of the rock sample. In one embodiment, the inversion can employ a wideband model that accounts for two different polarization mechanisms. The wideband model can be used to describe predicted electromagnetic response of the rock sample at frequencies that fall within the wideband of frequencies.

Methods of generating structural models of highly deviated or horizontal wells may be generated from the measurement of true stratigraphic thickness in three dimensions (TST3D). In one aspect, methods may include generating a structural model from one or more deviation surveys of a horizontal well, one or more single channel log measurements, and a three-dimensional reference surface.

Treatment methods and treatment fluids for increasing permeability of organic shale formations are described herein. The treatment method includes treating an organic shale formation with a treatment fluid. The treatment fluid includes a solvent that dissolves bitumen in the shale formation. After treating the shale formation with the treatment fluid, oil is recovered from the shale formation. By removing bitumen from pores and pore throats within the formation, the solvent increases permeability of the formation and allows mobile oil to flow more easily through the formation.

Oil-based mud cuttings are cleaned of drilling fluid and mud additives. After sorting and rinsing the cuttings with diesel, the cuttings are put in a syringe, which is repeatedly filled and emptied of diesel. The cuttings are then washed in the syringe with pentane. The cuttings are then crushed and exposed to a solvent a second time. Instead of placing the cuttings in the syringe, alternatively, the cuttings remain on a sieve and the syringe is used to spray the cuttings with diesel, followed by pentane.

Embodiments herein relate to a method for recovering hydrocarbons from a formation including collecting and analyzing a formation sample, drilling operation data, and wellbore pressure measurement, estimating a reservoir and completion quality, and performing an oil field service in a region of the formation comprising the quality. In some embodiments, the formation sample is a solid collected from the drilling operation or includes cuttings or a core sample.

Apparatus and methods for characterizing hydrocarbons in a subterranean formation include obtaining a sample of the subterranean formation; measuring, uphole, the porosity of the sample; using a nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) tool downhole in the borehole, sending NMR pulse sequences configured for formation pore size and measuring NMR signals that characterize the formation at a location in the formation; analyzing the signals to find a gas porosity of the formation at the location; and determining a hydrogen index (HI) of the subterranean formation from the gas porosity and from the porosity of the sample. The obtained HImay then be used in conjunction with downhole NMR measurements to find corrected gas porosities at locations of the formation.
