Vehicle frames for battery powered electric vehicles are disclosed. An example apparatus includes a vehicle frame including a first rail and a first rocker on a first side of the vehicle frame, and a second rail and a second rocker on a second side of the vehicle frame, the second side opposite the first side, a first backup rail coupled between the first rail and the first rocker, a second backup rail coupled between the second rail and the second rocker, a first brace extending between the first side and the second side, the first brace coupled to the first backup rail and at least one of the second backup rail or the second rocker, and a second brace extending between the first side and the second side, the second brace coupled to the second backup rail and at least one of the first backup rail or the first rocker.

Vehicle frames for battery powered electric vehicles

Vehicle frames for battery powered electric vehicles are disclosed. An example apparatus disclosed herein includes a vehicle subframe including a first rail and a first rocker on a first side of the vehicle subframe, and a second rail and a second rocker on a second side of the vehicle subframe, the first side opposite the second side, a first diagonal member coupled between the first rail and the second side of the vehicle subframe, the first diagonal member to transfer a first longitudinal load from the first rail to the second side, and a second diagonal member coupled between the second rail and the first side of the vehicle subframe, the second diagonal member to transfer a second longitudinal load from the second rail to the first side.

A seating assembly includes a seat and one or more slide rails that slidably engage an underside of the seat and permit longitudinal movement of the seat along the slide rail. The seating assembly further includes one or more load-dissipating assemblies operably coupled to an underside of the slide rail.

Seating assembly with load-dissipation

A vehicle frame is provided having a frame. The frame includes a main rail and a lateral rail. A bracket is operably coupled to the main rail. The vehicle frame assembly also includes a wedged shape deflecting member. The wedged shape deflecting member has a first end which is operably coupled to the bracket and a second end which is operable between a standard use position and a collision event position. The standard use position is where the second end is spaced a predetermined distance from the main rail. The collision event position is when the second end is in abutting contact with the main rail. During a collision event, the second end moves from the standard use position to the collision event position such that the deflecting member absorbs and deflects energy imparted on the frame.

Collision deflector assembly

A vehicle frame assembly is provided comprising a main rail. The vehicle frame assembly also includes a deflector assembly which has a front member having an inboard end pivotally coupled to the main rail and an outboard end. Moreover, the deflector assembly includes a rear member having an inboard end slidably coupled to the main rail and an outboard end pivotally coupled to the outboard end of the front member. Additionally, a tension member is disposed between the inboard ends of the front member and the rear member. The deflector assembly is operable between a normal use position wherein the tension member is slack and a collision position wherein the tension member is taut.

Sliding deflector assembly

A vehicle underbody structure includes a pair of longitudinal rails. A tunnel is spaced between the longitudinal rails. A number of nonintrusive support members span between the tunnel and the longitudinal rails. The support members have a hoop shape that surrounds an enclosed area. The hoop shape of the nonintrusive support members is adapted to deform into the enclosed area for preventing a side impact force from damaging the tunnel.

Vehicle underbody structure

A vehicle body structure having improved roof strength and reduced weight is provided. The vehicle body structure includes a first roof rail, a second roof rail, a first rocker rail and a second rocker rail. A closed-section roof bow may join the first roof rail and the second roof rail. The closed roof bow is substantially perpendicular to the first and second roof rails. A B-Pillar may be provided for each of the first roof rail and the second roof rail. Each B-Pillar defines a B-Pillar hinge joint and each A-Pillar defines an A-Pillar hinge joint between the roof end and the cowl end. A cowl may also be provided which may be disposed substantially perpendicular to the first and second roof rails. The cowl may be coupled to the first and second roof rails via the A-Pillar corresponding to the first roof rail and the A-Pillar for the second roof rail.

Vehicle body structure

An energy management structure for a vehicle may include a first longitudinal rail, a second longitudinal rail joined to the first longitudinal by at least a cross member and a bumper beam. A bumper panel is further provided wherein the bumper panel may be affixed to the bumper beam. The first deflecting rail includes a first front end and a first rear end. The first front end may be affixed to the bumper panel and the first rear end may be affixed to the cross member proximate to the first longitudinal rail. The second deflecting rail includes a second front end and a second rear end. The second front end may be affixed to the bumper panel and the second rear end may be affixed to the cross member proximate to the second longitudinal rail.

Energy management structure

A vehicle structural arrangementis provided which provides improved roof strength and controlled energy absorption when a load is imposed on the roof structure. The vehicle structural arrangement includes an inner panel, an outer paneland at least one bridge memberhaving a first region, a second region, and a middle region. The middle regionmay be disposed between and is integral to the first regionand the second region. The first regionof the middle portion abuts the inner panel and the second regionof the middle portion abuts the outer panel.

Vehicle structural arrangement for enhanced roof strength

A structural joint is formed between the upper frame rail, which bends downwardly to define a generally vertically extending portion, and a generally fore-and-aft extending lower frame rail that can be tuned to manage the flow of crash energy during an impact situation. The upper frame rail is formed as a conventional four-sided tube, but is reformed at the intersection with the lower frame rail into a multiple-sided configuration that defines a mating surface for connection to the lower frame rail. The size of the mating surface has a fore-and-aft width dimension of between 20 and 40 millimeters and can be tuned to selectively control the management of crash forces encountered during an impact. The welded connection between the upper and lower frame rails forming this structural joint provides adequate stiffness and rigidity for the function of an automotive frame, yet presents a reduced shear strength in the fore-and-aft direction.

Tubular structural joint for automotive front end

A structural joint is formed between the upper frame rail, which bends downwardly to define a generally vertically extending portion, and a generally fore-and-aft extending lower frame rail that can increase bending resistance without sacrificing crash energy management of the horn section of the lower frame rail. The structural joint is reinforced with a crushable tubular reinforcement member formed in a clamshell configuration that includes a forwardly extending support arm positioned beneath the horn section to lower the center of gravity of a downwardly angled horn section to prevent premature bending thereof when encountering crash energy from a frontal impact. The horn section is formed in a pre-folded configuration to enhance the crash energy management of the horn section. The tubular reinforcement provides a double cell structural configuration adjacent the structural joint to provide a crushable structural joint that enables an effective management of crash energy.

A bumper system for an automotive vehicle includes a unitary bumper beam substrate which defines upper and lower channel sections which are capped for part of their length by stiffening elements which provide localized increased strength and resistance to elastic buckling and collapsing of the bumper beam.

Bumper for automotive vehicle

A bumper beam is formed from a tailor welded blank with thinner gage sheet metal laser welded to thicker gage sheet metal at opposing sides thereof. The tailor welded blank is then formed into a bumper beam having a uniform B-shaped cross-sectional configuration from one terminal end to the other. The heavier gage material in the tailor welded blank corresponds to the terminal ends of the bumper beam where the bumper beam is affixed to the lower frame rails of the vehicle chassis thus placing the greater energy absorption qualities for the bumper beam only at the locations in which they are needed without requiring reinforcement inserts.
