Apparatus for a portable electronic device, the apparatus comprising a base member, a user input interface, and a user output interface. The user output interface is configured to extend along mutually perpendicular longitudinal and lateral axes of the apparatus. The user input interface comprises a QWERTY input configured to extend parallel to the longitudinal axis. The apparatus is configured to provide a first configuration in which the user input interface is housed between the base member and the user output interface, and a second configuration in which the user input and output interfaces have been laterally slid in opposing directions with respect to the base member.

Disclosed herein is an apparatus. The apparatus includes a housing, electronic circuitry, a first arm member, and a spring. The housing includes a first housing section and a second housing section. The electronic circuitry is mounted in the housing. The first arm member is connected between the first housing section and the second housing section. The first arm member is configured to move a portion of the second housing section away from the first housing section. The spring is connected between the second housing section and the first arm member. The spring is configured to exert a torque between the second housing section and the first arm member.

Electronic device slide and tilt mechanism

A mobile terminal having three parts rotatably interconnected by hinges. The terminal can be a mobile telephone having an operative position where a microphone and a loudspeaker are positioned for conversation. When not in operation, the terminal may be positioned around a user's wrist in a safe manner. Removing the terminal from the wrist requires operation of a release means or the overcoming of a predetermined force, which is a safety measure of the hinges and the terminal. The hinges provide a combination of snap or automatic rotation and freely selective rotational positions of the parts of the terminal.

A hinge assembly, and an associated method, for hingedly connecting separate body portions, such as first and second housing portions of a mobile station, theretogether. The hinge assembly provides multiple axes of rotation including, at least, a transversely-extending axes and a longitudinally-extending axis. The hinge pieces are coupled theretogether by a bearing that permits rotational movement about a longitudinally-extending axis. A foldable mobile phone hardset includes a first part and a second part which are pivotably connected by an elastic sheet. The sheet has a first end fixed in a curved slot in the first part and a second end fixed in a curved slot in the second part. The curvature of the sheet adds to the spring loading of the parts toward a stable open position of the phone, wherein the sheet has a uniform curvature along its length. The electronic components of the two parts are connected by an electronic element which is laid against the elastic sheet, the electronic element and the sheet being encased in an elastomeric sheath.

A portable radiotelephone device is provided that includes a body having provided on one or more exposed surface thereof one or more electrical contacts for one or more respective electrical input/output devices. The electrical contacts are covered with one or more layers of electro-resistive material. The electro-resistive material in the relaxed condition being an electrical insulator and in the stressed state being an electrical conductor. The arrangement is such that to effect electrical connection between any of the one or more electrical contacts with respective one or more electrical input/output devices, respective contacts and input/output devices are mutually engaged so as to load the elasto-resistive material under compression.
