The technologies described herein are generally directed to the use of fiber optic cables for communication. For example, a method described herein can include moving opposing members of a fiber optic securing clip from an open position to a closed position, wherein the opposing members are spaced apart to receive a first fiber optic strand comprising a bare end. The method can further include, based on the opposing members being in the closed position, securing the bare end of the first fiber optic strand within the fiber optic securing clip comprising optically coupling the first fiber optic strand to an end of a second fiber optic strand.

The technologies described herein are generally directed to using a loopback component to test a single fiber optic strand. For example, a method described herein can include generating a first optical beam of a first wavelength. The method can further include transmitting the first optical beam via a fiber optic fiber. Further, the method can include receiving via the fiber optic fiber, a second optical beam of a second wavelength, with the second optical beam having a characteristic of the first optical beam, and with the second optical beam being generated by a non-electrical conversion of the first light of the first wavelength to the second light of the second wavelength.

Aspects of the subject disclosure may include, for example, receiving a first optical signal from a first optical network via a first port of the wavelength converter, receiving a second optical signal from a second optical network via a second port of the wavelength converter, modulating the first optical signal with the second light signal to generate a third optical signal, eliminating the first light signal from the third optical signal to generate a fourth optical signal, and transmitting the fourth optical signal through the second optical network. The first optical signal can include a first digital signal modulated onto a first light signal of a first wavelength, the second optical signal can include a second light signal can include a second wavelength different from the first wavelength, and the fourth optical signal can include the first digital signal modulated onto the second light signal. Method and an apparatus for transitioning between optical networks

Aspects of the subject disclosure may include, for example, a housing that includes a first waveguide port and a second waveguide port, wherein the first waveguide port is configured for receiving an optical signal via a first optical waveguide optically coupled to the first waveguide port. The housing may include a passive optical processing module that is removably coupled to the housing and optically coupled to the first waveguide port. The passive optical processing module is configured to perform a prescribed function, e.g., filtering, upon the optical signal to obtain a processed optical signal without utilizing an electronic circuit. The second waveguide port is configured to transfer the processed optical signal to an optical waveguide external to the housing. Other embodiments are disclosed.

Reconfigurable passive terminal that manages access to an optical channel spectrum

An example apparatus may include an optical splitter apparatus that includes a dual mode fiber having a single mode fiber core embedded in a multi-mode fiber core, a plurality of single mode fibers, and a funnel waveguide coupling the dual mode fiber to the single mode fibers. The optical splitter apparatus may be for use in a passive optical network. The single mode fiber core may be for transmitting downstream optical signals, where the funnel waveguide distributes the downstream optical signals to the single mode fibers. In addition, the single mode fibers may transmit upstream optical signals, and the funnel waveguide may direct the upstream optical signals into the multi-mode fiber core. The optical splitter apparatus may have an asymmetric insertion loss ratio between the downstream optical signals received via the single mode fiber core and the upstream optical signals received via the single mode fibers.

Apparatuses and methods for facilitating communications using a single hollow core fiber combining module

Aspects of the subject disclosure may include, for example, a device having an input port and multiple output ports adapted for connection to multiple passive optical network (PON) segments. The device includes an optical power splitting device in communication between the input port and the multiple output ports and adapted to provide divided portions of an optical signal received at the input port to the PON segments via the output ports. The device includes optical delay devices in optical communication between the optical power splitting device and at least a portion of the multiple output ports. The optical delay devices provide distinguishable delay values, that delay the divided portions of the optical signal, the distinguishable delay values facilitating associations of the PON segments to the output ports based on optical time domain reflectometry (OTDR) measurements obtained via the input port. Other embodiments are disclosed.

Port-identified optical signal splitter

Aspects of the subject disclosure may include, for example, determining distinct timing offsets between an input port and output ports of a multiport optical device. An optical signal is injected at an input port of the device to obtain output signals at the output ports, which are injected into downstream fibers. An optical multipath return signal is received via the input port of the device, including a combination of measured events including reflections, backscatter, or both. A number of similar events expected in the number of downstream optical fibers is calculated to obtain an expected multipath signature based on configuration data. Results of the optical multipath return signal are then compared to the expected multipath signature to obtain comparison results. One of the measured events is distinguished from the others based on the first comparison results and the distinct timing offsets. Other embodiments are disclosed.

Multi-path, smart optical time-domain reflectometer

A system may use a single fiber combining module (SFCM) that combines multiple wavelength channels of different optical technologies over a single fiber. In an example, a SFCM may include a original band (O-band) port, wherein the O-band passes signals at a first wavelength range; a XGS PON port, wherein the XGS-PON port passes signals at a second wavelength range; a dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) port, wherein the DWDM port passes signals at a third wavelength range, wherein the first frequency range, the second frequency range, and the third wavelength range are different; and a common port connected with a fiber, the common port simultaneously combining signals from the O-band port, XGS-PON port, and the DWDM port.

A system may use a single fiber combining module (SFCM) that combines multiple wavelength channels of different optical technologies over a single fiber. In an example, a SFCM may include a gigabit passive optical network (GPON) port, wherein the GPON passes signals at a first wavelength range; a XGS PON port, wherein the XGS-PON port passes signals at a second wavelength range; a dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) port, wherein the DWDM port passes signals at a third wavelength range, wherein the first frequency range, the second frequency range, and the third wavelength range are different; and a common port connected with a fiber, the common port simultaneously combining signals from the GPON port, XGS-PON port, and the DWDM port.
