Disclosed is a plastic strip for use in the manufacture of unshrouded insulative housings for electrical connectors. The strip is comprised of an elongated body having a first and a second end and adjacent the first end there is a cavity for receiving a polymeric molding compound. This cavity allows the strip to be attached end to end a second subsequently formed axially aligned plastic strip to allow for the continuous manufacture of such strips. The strip also includes a plurality of axially spaced apertures for receiving pins or other conductive elements.

A hearing aid device is formed of a shell, face and battery door. The face is cut from a faceplate assembly which includes a battery opening and a hinge pin. Opposed ends of the hinge pin are formed integrally with opposed side walls of the battery opening for reduced width. The battery door includes a battery compartment for housing a round battery. An opened end and a closed end of the battery compartment is formed between opposed sides of the battery door and the extent of the battery door is less than 0.130 inches to allow deeper insertion of the hearing aid into an ear canal. Components of the face corresponding to operational components of the hearing aid are arranged to reduce the required face dimension for deeper insertion of the hearing aid.

A sandwich switch construction for a hearing aid includes a lower housing having a base surface with a first electrical lead formed thereon, and an elastomeric membrane with a second electrical lead formed thereon in alignment with the first electrical lead, a portion of the elastomeric membrane being spaced apart from the base surface such that the first electrical lead is not in communication with the second electrical lead; and an upper housing operable with the lower housing, the upper housing having contact mechanism for deforming the elastomeric membrane toward the base surface such that the first electrical lead is in electrical communication with the second electrical lead.
