A method for rapid detection of actinides including the steps of having a support including a colorimetric complexation, placing the support in communication with a sample through urinalysis, and receiving a visual indicator from the colorimetric complexation. The sample having an unknown concentration of at least one actinide within it. The colorimetric complexation is configured to activate when contacted by a threshold concentration of an actinide.

Scintillation compositions comprising a gadolinium compound and a scintillation compound in a polymer matrix precursor. The scintillation compound comprises strontium diiodide, fac-tris(2-phenylpyridine)iridium (Ir(ppy)), a quinine compound, or combinations thereof, or 2-(4-biphenylyl)-5 phenyl-1,3,4-oxadiazole (PBD), 2-(4-tert-butylphenyl)-5-(4-phenylphenyl)-1,3,4-oxadiazole (b-PBD), 2,5-diphenyl oxazole (PPO), 1,4-bis(5-phenyloxazol-2-yl) benzene (POPOP), or combinations thereof. Hydrogels comprising the gadolinium compound and scintillation compound in a polymer matrix are also disclosed, as are related systems and methods.

Hydrogels for isotopic neutron emitters and antineutrino detection and related detection systems and methods

A method and an apparatus using aqueous fixatives for fogging of ventilation ductwork, enclosures, or buildings containing dust, lint, and particulates that may be contaminated by radionuclides and other dangerous or unsafe particulate contaminants, which method and apparatus are capable of (1) obtaining full coverage within the ductwork and (2) penetrating and fixing the lint, dust and large particles present in the ductwork so that no airborne particles are released during or after the application of the fixative. New aqueous fogging solutions outperform conventional glycerin-based solutions. These aqueous solutions will fog using conventional methods of application and contain a surfactant to aid wetting and penetration of the lint and dust, a binder to stabilize loose or respirable particles, and an agent to aid in fogging and enhance adhesiveness. The solutions are safe and easy to use.
