An improved weight plate includes a planar body having a central opening for receiving a barbell or dumbbell bar therethrough. The weight plate includes oppositely facing flange members extending partially about the perimeter of the weight plate. The opposed ends of the flange members are spaced from each other and define a gap therebetween. The flange members extend perpendicularly from both sides of the weight plate planar body about the perimeter thereof. The weight plate includes at least one opening formed adjacent the perimeter of the weight plate. The opening is adapted to receive one or more fingers of an average human hand for securely grasping and lifting the weight plate. Adjacent weight plates mounted on a barbell bar are adapted for interlocking engagement.

An exercise machine has a first bar releasably coupled with a first cam pivotally mounted generally above and behind a seat mounted on the frame of the exercise machine. A second bar is connected to an arm assembly which is releasably coupled to a second cam pivotally mounted generally below the seat. Each cam has a means for resisting rotation of the cam mounted between it and the frame. Movement of either the first bar or second bar rotates its associated cam against the resistance of its associated resistance means. The starting position of each bar is adjustable and may be selected by coupling the bar with its associated cam in one of a plurality of fixed resting positions. Each cam may rotate in either direction about its pivot position. Accordingly, each bar may be moved from its selected starting rest position in either direction to impart rotation of its associated cam against selected resistance. In one embodiment, the resistance means are such that returning the bar to its starting position is also against resistance.

Multiple function exercise apparatus

An exercise machine has a-first track and handlebar assembly for simulation of cross-country skiing and a second track and handlebar assembly for simulation of downhill slalom skiing. The first track assembly has first and second elongate, parallel rails. A footpad engages each rail and is adapted to move along the length of its respective rail. A pair of handlebars are pivotally mounted at a location near one end of the first and second elongate rails. The second track has first and second arched rails. A platform is releasably mounted on said first and second arched rails and is adapted to move from one end of the rails to the other. A handlebar is provided for grasping during use of the platform for exercising. Resiliently flexible tension bands or chords are used to resist movement of both the first and second footpads and the platform.

Physical exerciser

A multiple function exercise apparatus comprises a frame for supporting a resistance assembly such as a guided weight assembly. A cam is pivotally mounted on the frame and is operably connected to the resistance assembly. A handlebar may be attached to said cam in one of a plurality of fixed resting positions. In one mode of operation, movement of the handlebar in a first direction causes the cam to pivot in a first direction thereby moving the resistance assembly from its resting position. In another mode of operation, the movement of the handlebar in a second direction opposite the first direction causes the cam to likewise pivot in a second direction opposite the first rotational direction thereby moving the resistance assembly from its resting position. In yet another mode of operation, the cam may be locked in a fixed position. A cable connected at one end to a moveable mechanism and at the other end to the resistance assembly slidingly engages a spool located on the cam during movement of the moveable mechanism. A climbing mechanism is also provided on the frame.
