A sleeve assembly and an air conditioning unit are disclosed for mounting the air conditioning unit in a through the wall application. The sleeve assembly includes duct connections, drain connections and electrical connections such that during construction of the building all the connections of the air conditioning unit are made to the sleeve. Thereafter, the air conditioning unit may be engaged into the sleeve to complete the installation.

Apparatus for use in a heat exchange unit having wound fin tubing including a tube support assembly having a tube support and a rod for securing runs of wound fin tubing therebetween. The rod is mounted to the tube support in rod slots providing a snap fit arrangement. The entire tube support assembly is designed for use for mounting a peripherally encasing heat exchanger that is tapered to a vertical partition.

A combination compressor support and drain pan for use in a heat exchange unit is disclosed. A compressor support is mounted to a vertically extending partition and spaced a selected distance from the bottom of the unit such that a compressor may be mounted thereon. A drain bracket is secured between the partition and the compressor support to provide both structural integrity for the support and to divert condensate collected by the support to a separate drain pan.

A combination fan motor and orifice support assembly including a plurality of fan motor support legs and a plurality of fan orifice supports all integrated to support both the fan motor and the fan orifice are disclosed. Additionally, tube supports for securing the loops of a wound fin heat exchanger in appropriate position are disclosed for providing further structural support to the fan orifice and therethrough to the entire support assembly.

A method and apparatus for promoting effective heat transfer between refrigerant flowing through a heat exchanger and air flowing thereover and for providing a method of defrost of a portion of the heat exchanger wherein frost has accumulated. A headering arrangement is provided such that during defrost a portion of the heat exchanger is isolated and the fluid being supplied to the frosted portions of the coil is directed to the frosted portions to make the most effective use of the heat energy therein. Valve means are provided for regulating the flow of refrigerant to an intermediate header during defrost.

Apparatus and method for defrosting a dual refrigeration circuit refrigeration system. During defrost one of the refrigeration circuits is operated to supply heat energy to the frosted heat exchanger of the other circuit and the fan circulating heat transfer media through a heat exchanger of each circuit is reversed such that heat transfer fluid is heated by one refrigeration circuit and then used to defrost a heat exchanger of the other circuit.

A heat exchange unit for use in an air conditioning system having an enclosure defining an opening, a heat exchanger within the enclosure and a cover adapted and mounted to the enclosure at the opening, the cover having segments extending between the center portion of the cover and the end surface such that slots are created between adjacent segments. The segments have inclined louver sections such that the air flow through the grille is optimized with the particular fan characteristics. The fan and fan motor may be secured to the center portion of the cover.

Apparatus for joining a sheet to a structural member angled therefrom which includes forming an indented portion in the sheet as well as a slot such that a clip having a tail section, a body section and a head section may be inserted such that the tail section extends through the slot and the head section extends beyond the end of the sheet such that the head section and the tail section are on one side of the sheet and the body section is on the same side of the sheet as the indented portion. The clip head has a screw opening such that a screw may be inserted through the member to which the sheet is to be joined into the clip head. Upon tightening the screw a support surface on the clip tail engages the sheet at the slot and the screw threads engage the interior surface of the indented portion of the sheet thereby securing the sheet to the screw and consequently the member through which the screw extends. The clip head may also have contact surfaces such that the clip body may be deformed against the indented portion of the sheet and held in a deformed stressed position by the contact surfaces thereby securing the clip to the sheet prior to the insertion of the screw. This joint has particular application for aluminum tube sheets used with aluminum heat exchangers when the tube sheets are mounted to a bracket perpendicular to the ends thereof.

Apparatus and a method for controlling refrigerant flow through the indoor coil of air conditioning equipment including a refrigeration system such that upon predetermined humidity conditions being sensed refrigerant flow will be routed to provide additional latent cooling and dehumidification. Within the liquid header of the indoor coil in the refrigeration system a solenoid valve is mounted to isolate at least one of a plurality of refrigerant circuits. This valve is closed when a need for dehumidification is detected by a humidistat located in communication with the air of the enclosure to be conditioned. When a need for dehumidification is not detected by the humidistat the valve is opened and refrigerant flows through all of the circuits of the indoor coil. Additionally, a check valve is mounted in parallel with the solenoid valve such that if a reversible refrigeration system is utilized refrigerant flow can bypass the solenoid valve in the heating mode of operation.
