The present invention provides various approaches for disseminating emergency broadcasting messages or other messages of importance (hereinafter 'alerts') within virtual world environments such that interested virtual world residents can be made aware of matters of importance based on their physical world locations (e.g., without respect to the locale of their current virtual world presence).

Informing users of a virtual universe of real world events

Aspects of this invention are directed toward determining the effectiveness of advertising in a virtual universe. Specifically, under the present invention, a visit by an avatar to a region of the VU that includes targeted advertising content is registered. Then, the following avatar attributes are determined: a proximity to the target advertising content by the avatar; an avatar directionality of the avatar with respect to the target advertising content; a camera directionality of a camera object associated with the avatar; and a time with respect to which the avatar may be exposed to the target advertising content in the region. Thereafter, at least one score is assigned to the visit, the proximity, the directionality, and the time. An effectiveness score is then calculated based on the at least one score. The overall effectiveness of the target advertising content is then calculated based on the at least one score.

The hand-held device functions to disable and/or downwardly adjust a time period during which the time-limited feature will be allowed to be active upon a future occurrence of a triggering event in response to the device determining that a predetermined number of trigger events sensed via the triggering sensor are false trigger events. The time-limited feature may be disabled by disabling the triggering sensor.

A printer blank for a computer system printer is disclosed. The blank has a contiguous pressure adhesive backed label section and may also have a larger plain paper section separated from the label section by a perforation line. The label section is comprised of a plurality of adhesive backed labels and a backing sheet, including a main label portion and at least one smaller auxiliary label. A preferred blank comprises a plurality of auxiliary labels. In use, at least one, but preferably not all, of the auxiliary labels on such a preferred blank are simultaneously removed from the backing sheet with the main label portion. Any auxiliary label(s) simultaneously removed with the main label but not printed upon are readily separated from the main label.

A system for managing delivery of contrast media from a contrast media source to a patient. The system includes a chamber for receiving fluid from the contrast media source in a controlled manner. Attached at one end of the chamber is an inlet line and, at the opposite end, an outlet line. Disposed in the outlet line is a valve. The valve provides a first position which permits the flow of contrast media through the line. The valve further provides a second position which permits flow of fluid from the point of the valve toward the patient, while at the same time venting the system at the point of the valve.

System for managing delivery of contrast media

A waste collection system for receiving contaminated fluids in a manner which helps to prevent splashing of fluids or spilling them while they are being collected, thereby increasing protection to personnel, and which also keeps the fluids safely contained until ready for permanent disposal. In one presently preferred embodiment, the waste collection system includes a receptacle in which an absorbent pad is placed. The top of the receptacle is then sealed with a lid in an essentially fluid-tight fit. The surface of the lid is concave and slopes inwardly to a point at which an opening is formed, and a circular foam disc is placed at the opening. The foam material is provided with slits so that fluid can be introduced to the interior of the receptacle by either injecting a device such as a syringe through the slits or by permitting fluid to directly contact the foam material of the disc, which provides absorption and wicking action so that fluids will readily pass through the disc. Drainage channels are also formed on the surface of the lid, which is concave, for draining fluids that contact the surface of the lid quickly into the receptacle. A stabilizing support base with a non-skid surface receives and frictionally holds the container, and after fluids are contained, the support base can then be used by placing it onto the top of the receptacle and over the lid in a friction-tight seal so as to completely enclose the contaminated fluids within the receptacle, ready for permanent disposal.

A method of pressing one or more boards disposed on a joist includes using the board press and pivoting the lever in a pivot plane which is kept perpendicular to the edge of the board while simultaneously twisting the dog member to seat it upon the joist.
