A system for fracturing a subterranean formation includes a housing having one or more radially directed ports therein. A valve disposed within the housing proximate the one or more ports. A seat member interactive with the valve to rapidly prevent or substantially retard fluid flow therethrough. A method for initiating a fracture in a subterranean formation is included.

Downhole fracture system and method

Slip elements for a downhole tool include an inner body portion that is substantially formed of a material that is degradable by dissolution in response to a dissolving fluid and a hardened, resilient, radially outer contact portion. The inner body portion may be formed of magnesium, aluminum or iron based powder.

Easy drill slip with degradable materials

A design for a bridge plug wherein the slip elements include an outer contact portion to engage a surrounding tubular member and an inner body portion designed to easily disintegrate during removal of the bridge plug by subsequent milling. The inner body portion is formed of a softer material than the outer contact portion. Also, the inner body portion is made up of a plurality of segments that are readily separated and dispsersed during milling out.

Easy drill slip

Thin wall sleeves are inserted into a well and expanded into sealing position to a surrounding tubular. Each sleeve has a ball seat. A zone is perforated after a sleeve is secured in position below the perforations. The ball is dropped onto the seat and pressure is built up to complete the fracturing. After all zones are perforated and fractured, the balls are removed, preferably by dissolving them and the thin walled sleeves are left in the tubular against which they have been expanded. Production can then begin from a selected zone. The objects can be of the same size for each sleeve. The sleeves can be run through tubing and into casing. Acid can be pumped to dissolve the objects.

A system for fracturing a formation includes a tubular positionable within a formation borehole having at least one port therethrough configured to provide fluidic communication from inside the tubular to the formation borehole. The system also includes a seal sealably attachable to both the tubular and walls of the formation borehole, a seat in operable communication with the tubular and a member in operable communication with the seat such that movement of the seat relative to the tubular causes the member to engage the walls and provide stress thereto.

System and method for fracturing a formation and a method of increasing depth of fracturing of a formation

A slip element, including a substrate at least partially formed from a material degradable upon exposure to a fluid; and an outer surface disposed on the substrate. A method of removing a slip element including exposing a substrate of the slip element to a downhole fluid for degrading the substrate.

Degradable slip element

A gel barrier may be created within an annulus in a one-step operation by combining two or more solutions within the annulus. The two solutions may include a first solution, such as a silicate solution, and a second solution that may be an aqueous hardener solution. Once the two solutions are combined and subsequently reacted together, the forming of a gel barrier may occur between a plurality of zones along the annulus. The gel barrier may then prevent a fluid from traveling between adjacent zones of the wellbore annulus.

Method of isolating and completing multiple zones within a wellbore

A tubular valving system includes, a tubular, a seat, a sleeve movably engaged with the seat between at least a first position, a second position and a third position, a release member between the sleeve and the seat that maintains the sleeve relative to the seat in the first position until release thereof, a biasing member configured to urge the sleeve from the second position toward the third position, and a flapper sealingly engagable with the seat. A first threshold pressure against the seated flapper causes release of the release member allowing the sleeve and the seat to attain the second position. A subsequently drop in pressure against the seated flapper below a second threshold level allows the biasing member to move the sleeve relative to the seat to the third position thereby unseating the flapper from the seat and preventing the flapper from again seating with the seat.

Tubular valving system and method

A fracturing jet nozzle assembly features a series of angles nozzles on a rotatably mounted plate that operates in conjunction with a central nozzle or nozzles. The slanted nozzles are aimed into the perforation where the central nozzle is aimed directly so that the rotation of the nozzle plate from the slanted nozzles results in cyclic impacts in the perforation from where the fractures will propagate. The cyclic loading results in greater fracture formation and propagation. In another variation, relatively movable plates employing slanted nozzles rotate one plate with respect to another to get the effect of cyclic pulses of jetting fluid impingement in the perforation to enhance formation and propagation of fractures from the perforation.

A vibratory tool for use in a tubular string to prevent sticking or to release a stuck string features a fluid operated dart valve working in conjunction with an impact sleeve to deliver continuous axial jarring blows in opposed directions as long as flow is maintained. Movement of one of those components axially in opposed directions opens and closes access to opposed lateral ports so that a lateral vibration is also established as flow cyclically occurs and stops sequentially at opposed lateral outlets.

A formation treatment system includes an annulus spanning member having one or more openings therein, the one or more openings incorporating a degradable material. A tubular having one or more ports therein in fluid communication with the one or more openings. A sleeve capable of isolating or communicating the one or more ports with an ID of the tubular. A method for effecting precision formation treatment is included.

A fracturing jet nozzle assembly has nested telescoping sections that each have nozzles in them. The outermost stage makes for a large perforation as it and the adjacent stages begin extension. As the stage adjacent the outermost stage continues to extend into the perforation and reaches maximum extension the nozzles in the outermost stage are cut off from fracturing fluid flow and that flow is in turn redirected to the remaining stages that have not yet fully extended. The innermost stage preferably does not get cut off from jet fluid flow even at its full extension.

A liner hanger uses a spirally shaped slip member that makes at least one revolution about the mandrel being expanded. The slip member is disposed in a groove with tapered end walls that approach each other during radial mandrel expansion due to shrinkage of said mandrel in the longitudinal direction. The shrinkage binds the slip to the mandrel as the slip member approaches the surrounding tubular. The tapered side walls of the groove moving together cam out the slip member into enhanced contact with the surrounding tubular to support the liner or other string below the hanger. The slip member and groove have preferably the same pitch to allow easy mounting with an applied rotational force.

A completion assembly for subterranean use from a surface in multiple zones that are gravel packed together has a plurality of screens spaced apart with tubulars that define an annulus around them in the subterranean location for receipt of gravel in the annulus. The annulus spans multiple zones and the annulus is isolated from the surface by at least one packer. At least one barrier forming chemical is delivered from the tubulars into the annulus that has been gravel packed. The barrier chemical forms a barrier with the gravel in the annulus between at least two zones. The tubulars comprise at least one opening located between zones. A straddle tool is insertable from the surface into said tubulars to isolate the opening for chemical delivery into the annulus.
