Plasma/cell concentrator apparatus and methods are described herein for concentrating constituents from a fluid. Generally, a volume of the fluid may be urged from a first reservoir to a second reservoir through a fluid channel and a volume of desiccant for mixing with the fluid may be introduced to create a mixture. This fluid and desiccant mixture may be passed between the first and second reservoirs until one or more components from the fluid are absorbed by the desiccant. After mixing, the fluid may be withdrawn through a withdrawal channel which is in fluid communication with the fluid channel while preventing the desiccant from passing into the withdrawal channel.

One variation may generally comprise a tube having a length and defining a channel within and one or more ports located at a proximal end of the tube and in fluid communication with the channel. A plunger may slidably translatable within the channel while forming a seal against an inner surface of the channel and a float may have a pre-selected density and defining a concave interface surface, wherein the float is slidably contained within the channel such that the concave interface surface is in apposition to the one or more ports.

The second surface can be spaced an integer fractional multiple of the wavelength from the first surface and each integer factional multiple equals a number of pressure nodes within the channel.

The body can define a channel having a first surface, an opposing second surface, a first side, and an opposing second side. A method for washing a suspension of cells including a suspension fluid and a plurality of cells is provided. The method includes using centripetal force to generate a layer of wash solution against a cylindrical wall and to generate a cell suspension layer adjacent to the layer of wash solution. The method also includes forcing the cells through the layer of wash solution to generate a layer of clean cells. Devices for performing the method are also provided.
