A plural output control station for operating electrical apparatus, such as model electric train engines and accessories. The control station employs a data processor for monitoring and controlling the signals generated at a plurality of transformer-driven power output terminals. An exemplary station includes two variable-voltage alternating current (AC) output channels (TRACK and TRACK ) and two fixed-voltage AC output channels (AUX & AUX ). The variable-voltage outputs are controlled by a data processor responsive to respective operator-controlled throttles for varying the AC output voltage and therefore the rate of movement and direction of electric train engines, typically three-rail O-gauge model trains. The variable-voltage outputs can also be offset by the data processor with positive and negative DC voltages for enabling engine functions such as horns, whistles and bells. The variable-voltage outputs are controlled by the data processor to also communicate control parameters to electric train engines for the operation and programming of various electric train engine features and accessories. The plurality of outputs are monitored by the data processor to ensure that predetermined voltage and/or current limits are not exceeded by any individual output and that a predetermined power limit is not exceeded by any individual output or by any combination of outputs.

A light-weight, high-speed, electrically powered manually directed floor polisher for cleaning and polishing a floor, the polisher having a carriage on which is mounted wheels, a motor, an electronic motor controller means for providing the current and voltage to operate the motor, cooling means for cooling the motor and its controller, the controller including a power factor correction device, a polishing pad, means engaged to the polishing pad and the brushless D.C. motor for rotating the polishing pad, the polishing pad fixed on the carriage so that substantially the entire area of its polishing face is in contact with the surface during operation of the polisher, and a detachable free-floating handle rotatably mounted to the carriage to direct transport of the polisher when in operation. The motor is mounted on the carriage to operate the polisher and to place a constant percentage of the force produced by the weight of the polisher down through the polishing pad to maintain substantially the entire area of the polishing face in polishing contact with the floor being serviced during operation while the remainder of the force is transmitted down through the wheels.

A soft start power control device for a liquid vacuum motor includes a detection component for shutting off the vacuum motor when the vacuum's recovery tank reach full capacity, and in-rush current limiting component for restraining the in-rush current to the motor when the power is switched on, whereby the motor slowly ramps up to its operating speed. The motor is switch by a triac. The device includes a component for preventing the triac from inadvertently triggering at commutation frequency. A snubber circuit is also connected in parallel with the triac to limit the dv/dt characteristic. The detection component includes a float switch to monitor the level of liquid in the recovery tank. The detection component disables the motor once the water reaches a predetermined high level, which then requires the operator to empty the recovery tank before restarting the motor.
