A welded web comprising a first edge of a web having at least one aperture overlapping a second edge of a web comprising thermoplastic material on an exposed surface along the second edge to form a region of contiguous contact between the first edge and the second edge, at least a portion of the thermoplastic material at least partially filling the aperture thereby bonding the first edge to the second edge. The web may be formed by a process comprising providing a web having a first edge, providing a web having a second edge, forming at least one aperture in at least the first edge, overlapping the first edge over the thermoplastic material on the exposed surface along the second edge whereby the thermoplastic material on the second edge at least covers the aperture to form a region of contiguous contact between the first edge and the second edge, raising the temperature at least in the region of contiguous contact adjacent the aperture whereby thermoplastic material from the second edge at least partially fills the aperture thereby bonding the first edge to the second edge.

Welding of web materials

A photosensitive member having at least two electrically operative layers. The first layer comprises a photoconductive layer which is capable of photogenerating and injecting photo-excited holes into a contiguous active layer. The active layer comprises a transparent organic material which is substantially non-absorbing in the spectral region of intended use, but which is 'active' in that it allows injection of photo-excited holes from the photoconductive layer, and allows these holes to be transported through the active layer. This structure may be imaged in the conventional xerographic mode which usually includes charging, exposure to light, and development.

Layered imaging member and method

An imaging member which is comprised of a substrate, an injecting contact, or hole injecting electrode overlaying the substrate, a charge transport layer comprised of an electrically inactive organic resin having dispersed therein an electrically active material, a combination of which is substantially non-absorbing to visible electromagnetic radiation but allows the injection of photogenerated holes from a charge generator layer in contact with the injecting contact and electrically induces holes from the layer of injecting material, a layer of charge generator material on and in operative connection with the charged transport layer and finally a layer of insulating organic resin overlaying the layer of charge generating material. The hole injecting electrode includes materials such as trigonal selenium, selenium dioxide, arsenic, tellurium, and alloys of selenium such as arsenic-selenium-tellurium.

Overcoated photoreceptor containing injecting contact

An imaging member comprising a layer of particulate photoconductive material dispersed in an organic resinous binder, said photoconductive material comprising trigonal selenium containing a mixture of an alkali metal selenite and an alkali metal carbonate. This layer can be the charge generation layer of an imaging member also having a charge transport layer in contact therewith.

Active polymeric matrices, xerographic elements and a process for obtaining the monomer and polyester material by reacting an aldehyde of a desired polycyclic aromatic compound with a dicarboxy acid ester in the presence of a base to obtain an unsaturated dicarboxyester intermediate; cyanating the intermediate in the presence of alcohol to obtain a saturated B-cyano monocarboxy acid ester which is hydrolyzed to the .alpha., .beta. dicarboxy intermediate and then esterified to obtain the .alpha., .beta. dicarboxy ester monomer. This monomer is catalytically polymerizable with a polyhydroxy alcohol such as a glycol to obtain the polyester.

Possible active matrix polymers

This application relates to a new way of carrying out xerographic functions while minimizing development and cleaning problems commonly associated with the photoreceptor surface and while maintaining excellent photoconductor efficiency and flex; and a device for carrying out the above purposes.

Photoactive device for xerography

Vinyl polycyclic aromatics, particularly polycyclics having 3 or more nuclei and their polymers utilizable as active matrix material for xerographic purposes are obtained in high yield by initial conversion of the polycyclic reactant to the aldehyde in the presence of a haloalkyl ether as a formulating agent in the presence of a Friedl-Crafts type catalyst. The aldehyde intermediate is then converted to the vinyl monomer by using a Wittig-type reaction and, thereafter, polymerized, as desired, by the use of a cationic mechanism.

Polymers of benzanthracene as active matrix materials

A method of making a photosensitive imaging device which comprises; vacuum evaporating a thin layer of vitreous selenium onto a supporting substrate, forming a relatively thicker layer of electrically active organic material over said selenium layer, followed by heating said device to an elevated temperature for a time sufficient to convert the vitreous selenium to the crystalline trigonal form. The imaging device is also disclosed.
