A method, medium and system for compensating for parallax in transparent, semi-transparent, or opaque display components of a headband, headgear, head-worn device, or helmet-mounted device. A method for compensating for parallax in an image displayed on a display of a head-worn device (HWD) may include determining locations of one or more landmarks in a geographic space relative to a location of a user of the HWD based on first information indicative of the geographic space; generating a map of the one or more landmarks in the geographic space; receiving second information indicative of the geographic space; orienting the second information indicative of the geographic space relative to the map; shifting at least a portion of first or second information indicative of the geographic space to produce modified image data; and projecting the modified image data onto the screen of the head-worn device.

Methods and systems for automatic parallax compensation for helmet mounted imaging sensors used for augmented or extended reality displays

Aspects of the present disclosure include methods and systems for receiving a first image, amplifying a luminous intensity of the first image to generate a second image, digitally capturing the second image, identifying a first time associated with receiving the first image or capturing the second image, acquiring spatial information of the imaging system, identifying a second time associated with acquiring the spatial information, associating the second image with the spatial information based on the first time being substantially contemporaneous with the second time, and generating at least one of a position or an orientation of the imaging system based on the second image and the spatial information.

Methods and apparati for intensified visual-inertial odometry

A method, medium and system for auto-aligning displays of a head/helmet mounted display. The method, medium and system may provide for an auto-alignment of components of a headband, headgear, or a helmet. The method, medium and system may provide for a first sensor mounted to the helmet of a user and configured to communicate and transfer align with a vehicle comprising an inertial navigation system (INS). The method, medium and system may provide for display comprising a second sensor configured to communicate with the first sensor and transfer align the second sensor with the first sensor based on the transfer alignment of the first sensor with the vehicle. The method, medium and system may provide for wherein the first sensor and the second sensor comprise an inertial measurement unit (IMU). Further, the method, medium and system may also provide for the aligning of two displays on the head/helmet relative to each other in real time.

Methods and systems for auto-alignment of displays

A method, medium and system for generating a high-rate video for displaying to a user on a display device. The method, medium and system may generate and display the high-rate video by: capturing images for a video at a first frame rate, capturing movement of a display device via a motion sensor, estimating a motion of the camera based on images of the video captured at the first frame rate and the movement of the display device captured via the motion sensor, generating the high-rate video at a second frame rate by up-sampling the video captured at the first frame rate, and displaying the high-rate video to the user.

Methods and systems for generating a high-rate video for a camera in motion

A vision-aided inertial navigation system determines navigation solutions for a traveling vehicle. A navigation solution module analyzes image sensor poses and estimated inertial navigation solutions to produce a time sequence of system navigation solution outputs that represent changing locations of the traveling vehicle. A loop closure detector performs a two-threshold image classification to classify an incoming navigation image as novel, loop-closing, or neither, and the navigation solution module resets the navigation solution output to represent a previous location when the loop closure detector classifies an incoming navigation image as loop-closing.

Vision-aided inertial navigation with loop closure

A navigation system provides pose, i.e., location and orientation, solutions using best available location information from two or more location systems. One of the location systems is a fiducial-based location system, which is accurate when a sufficient number of fiducials is recognized. However, when an insufficient number of fiducials is recognized, an odometry-based location system is used. Although the odometry-based location system is subject to drift, when a sufficient number of fiducials is recognized, the fiducial-based location system is used to correct the odometry-based location system. The navigation system provides robust, accurate and timely pose solutions, such as for augmented reality (AR) or virtual reality (VR) systems, without the time-consuming requirement to establish and localize many fiducials or the computational and memory requirements of pure fiducial-based location systems, and without the inherent drift of pure odometry-based location systems.
